John Erardi reads Red Reporter
Morning everyone. I was reading Erardi's new column, Reds by the Numbers, which is an interesting read, as always. It turns out that at every position besides LF and RF, there's a Red in the top half of the NL in OPS. So why can't they score?
All of those talking points aside, it looks as though Erardi is aware of, and references, one of our favorite memes here...
With men on base, Dunn has 22 fewer plate appearances than Phillips, is hitting 86 points lower, slugging 52 points lower, and has the same number of HRs (3) - yet has 1 more RBI in those situations ... Is Dunn a witch?
So whoever started that...congrats. Enquirer writers are now cribbing from you.

Slyde, as well as GreginATL and JinAZ
have contributed to Erardi columns in the past. In fact, Slyde basically threw this same stat up – nearly verbatim – yesterday. Maybe he also forwarded it on to Erardi to use. Or maybe Erardi does read the site (which wouldn’t surprise me) and decided what he read was so good he had to use it for himself. Slyde should demand a link instead of wholesale cut and paste.
But the bigger issue is that the story is erroneous! Dunn is NOT a witch. How many times must I tell you people, the Donkey has simply found a magic pebble!

I just read the article
Slyde gets credited for contributing to this column as well, so I’m pinning that witch thing squarely on him.

Bako is not a witch
He simply employs the services of the Catcher Witch. The Catcher Witch ensures that any catcher can be productive at the plate, even Jason Kendall or Geovany Soto.
Dunn the Donkey has a magic pebble.
Phillips has a burning desire to beat his former team (hopefully he’ll have a big series against the Nats too).
Griffey has a sweet, sweet swing. I don’t think he’ll hit 598 today, but I predict that he will drive in a run.

Cherry Hudson, Keppinger, and Hopper
might all be witches, though.

Some of the witchcraft may be wearing off.
Bako needs to get some more.

I sent it to Erardi right after I posted it here
I just cut and pasted. I didn’t expect it to go in this week since we had already trimmed a lot of fat and just gotten it to fit, but Erardi liked it so much that he went with it. I’m concerned because I’m afraid my point was somewhat lost that RBI are a lame way to judge a player.

only if that is your sole criteria
but the bottom line is in order to win runs have to be scored and Dunn can produce some runs.
