Adam Dunn - Our favorite whipping boy

I just noticed that our boy Adam has knocked in at least one run in five consecutive games, the longest such streak of his career. And he has done it in an unconventional, or at least for him, manner.  On May 11 and 12 he had a sacrifice fly (hard to believe I know). On May 13 his RBI came via a ground out.  On May 14 he hit a solo shot. Last night he had another solo shot and an RBI walk (which provided the go ahead run).

I guess my point is he is starting to drive in some runs with out his usual power and I find that encouraging. His power stroke looks like it is slowly returning so hopefully he will crank things up and get back to his normal 40 home runs 100 RBI type season.

Below are the top consecutive game RBI streaks in Reds history.

Joe Morgan 1976-06-02 1976-06-11 9
Pete Rose 1975-09-23 1976-04-13 9

Ken Griffey 2000-04-05 2000-04-12 8
Kevin Mitchell 1994-07-10 1994-07-22 8
Hal Morris 1990-06-30 1990-07-12 8
George Foster 1976-05-20 1976-05-29 8
Jerry Lynch 1962-06-15 1962-06-23 8
Frank Robinson 1959-06-21 1959-07-02 8

Whoah, he leads the team in RBI - I hadn't realized that

Here’s a stat for you…

He has 22 fewer plate appearances with men on base than Brandon Phillips, but he has 1 more RBI in those situations than Phillips does – both have hit 3 HRs with men on base. Even stranger.. Phillips is batting .303/.349/.487 with men on base while Dunn is batting .217/.361/.435. So he’s got Dunn in both quantity and quality, and yet Dunn still has more RBI. Clearly Dunn is a witch.

Hey Caleb... Would you mind if I linked to this in the Facebook Application for Reds fans?

Would give us a good chance to show others how influential Dunn is for this team.

Agreed.

Any other “Adam Dunn isn’t the antichrist” related posts would also be relevant there too. I’m coming up with decent arguments, but it’d be nice to show people that this research has already been done and presented more poignantly than I’m able to.

Here we see a depiction of the antichrist after a particually painful day at GABP

all the research that matters is the in the box score of today's game.

Today May 17th Dunn hits game winning HR.

You think maybe we joke too much?

I’m afraid Adam might stumble (lumber?) across our little site and think we’re being serious. (Adam, if you’re reading, we get you.)

Adam Dunn seems to be a prankster in his own right.

And a very bright guy for a fisherman. I doubt if he reads RR, BUT if he did he would appreciate the support that we give him, even Zach (in his own inscrutable way).

I really enjoyed it last night

i was watching with my “old school” four man rotation, no pitch counts, Dad. When Baker had Dunn bunting I was up in arms because I knew he had a better chance of hitting a game winning homerun rather than a bunt. My dad disagreed he said “well he will either strike out or hit into a double play, I’d rather not waste an out”. It was almost like “He’s just not a clutch player”, but not on television. I think I might have to start to pay for my own car insurrance.

By the way...

Don’t look now, but Dunn’s K rate seems to be going Dunn. In 131 AB this year, he has K’d 35 times, or about 27%.

Last year, he K’d 165 times in 522 AB, or 32% of the time.

In his worst year for Ks (2005), he whiffed 194 times in 561 AB, or 34% of the time.

Therefore, all of the strikeout haters should be happy, right?

Are you sure you're OK? Have you had an MRI?
