Game 42 Thread: Reds vs Indians
Cleveland Indians at Cincinnati Reds, May 16, 2008 7:10 PM EDT

Tony Dejak/AP (Sowers - with Ross in the background after a HR), Al Behrman/AP (Cueto - pouncing off the mound like a bad ass)
|
|
|
Sowers's career line against the Reds: 0-2, 9.60 ERA, 15 IP, 20 H, 6 HR
Number of times the Reds drafted Sowers and he didn't sign: 1
Number of times Sowers will get smacked around like a little bitch when he faces the Reds: X
(X = the number of starts Sowers will make against the Reds in his career).
The Indians have won 3 in a row and 8 of their last 10, but they haven't been hitting the ball very well - at least not over their last 5 games. The Reds have also won 3 in a row, but only 6 of their last 10. They have been hitting ball well over their last 5 games. Plus, Johnny Cueto is a bad ass, albeit with a 5.91 ERA, while Jeremy Sowers is a little bitch. Ergo, the Reds are in better position to win. Where else can you get analysis like that on the internet?

Hey...
There’s two lefties in a row at 7-8. That’s not allowed in knifey-spooney.
Cueto should be batting before Bako therefore.

dumb question
is this sowers’ first start of the year? who’s he replacing in the rotation and why?
i guess that’s two questions.
Blame it on the rain
They got rained out and had to play a doubleheader. That’s why they called up someone from the minors.

Bailey needs a MRI
I am glad yesterday’s game was rained out.
Homer needs to be looked over. Something isn’t right and he has been declining for weeks now. The offense he is going against tonight is one of the worst in AAA and a offense he handled easy during a April start.
You could argue he has been underperforming for 2 straight seasons now. Possibly a rotator cuff that had been fraying and finally blew?

In Cleveland, they don’t use subject lines, and in Cincinnati they do. In Cleveland, they say “malk,” and in Cincinnati we don’t say something retarded for “milk.”

I've known multiple Clevelanders who have. I live with one currently.
Although, to be regionally fair, they’re from Lorain and Elyria. Maybe it’s just those places that are stupid.

Yup, MRI coming
Against such a weak offense. My guess his velocity is down and he can’t locate. Classic injury signs. He had it last year to but rest seemed to help as it did early into this season.

Homer’s velocity has dropped to much and without a changeup, he can’t. We need to findout why his velocity has dropped down to the low 90’s.

Maybe the Reds should trade Bailey for Sowers
Bailey’s suspect health vs. Sowers lack of talent. Maybe Jerry learns how to be like Glavine and can paint the edge.
Hey, at least Jerry will still be able to pitch
Homer may be in college or hunting on his fathers egg farm this time next year
by Johnnypronto on May 16, 2008 7:59 PM EDT up reply actions
you are the only one who questions the health of Bailey's arm
sometimes pitchers lose command and/or velocity for a couple of starts. Arroyo’s velocity dipped without reason and now is back up to 88-91 instead of 85-88. Serisously the sample size for Bailey is way too small.

Arroyo never had that much velocity
Nor did his k/9 drop off the table(it actually has been up this year).
Homer has had 2 seasons of declining velocity, poor command and weak k/9. Something isn’t right with the kid. The Reds need to have a pre-cautionary exam at least. I wonder if they regret overworking Homer at the end of the 2006 season.
by Johnnypronto on May 16, 2008 8:02 PM EDT up reply actions

Previous reports
Indicated he was throwing at 91-92mph most of the game. I doubt, looking at his results tonight, he was throwing any harder.
Listen, I would love to hear any logical reason. But the guy has been bad of late after a promising start. Maybe he can’t throw well below 80 and needs warm temps. Maybe he is injured. Not trying to be a pest, but him going down would hurt….......alot.
