Attendance
Fay made a post in his blog about attendance... Several people responded that they aren't going to games because the Reds have been bad for a while. Do you stay away simply because the Reds are losing? I have already attended one game (at PNC) and I have tickets for 5 more games (but one is in Cleveland and one in Chicago), and I plan to go back to PNC in August, and I hope to go to a few other random games. I go down about 5-10 times a year regardless of how well they are playing. I would go more if I could but I have a minimum wage second shift job, so I don't have the time or the money to go. Even if the Reds lose I still get to spend an afernoon or evening at the ballpark, and there isn't much that is better than that.

it's an excuse
the lack of fan has a lot to do with the demographics of the city and the metro area surrounding it.
of course losing has a lot to do with it, but it’s only half the story. (i’ve been working on a post on this for the past few days, so i won’t get into it now.)

I've been to 3 games this year and I have spent a shitcan full of money.
Not only is the team mediocre, but the ‘stadium entertainment’ is the same stuff they’ve been doing for the past couple years. It is just about as much fun to go to a freedom game at about 1/10th the cost.
And of course the location of the Stadium is ridiculous. Built for the ‘Rich not the ‘Commons’.

now that i am of age
i refuse to buy beer at a game. I can get drunk for $20-30 at a bar, a little less at home, it would cost me between $35 and $70 to get drunk at a game depending on conditions.

Stadium Entertainment!
What are you talking about? Do you actually go to the game to cheer Rosie Red as she tries to beat Mr Redlegs in that race? And no, A Freedom game is not just about as much fun. Or maybe it is… do they have cartoons you like better? The location of the stadium is not ridiculous either. How many stadiums have you been to?

Lets see;
Off the top of my head ML Baseball Stadia –
Crosley field
Riverfront
3 Rivers
Busch Stadium
Jacobs Field
GABP
I don’t go to watch Rosie Red, etc. My comment is that I’m weary tired of Rosie Red and Gapper and whole lame ball of shit. I go to watch the game and I don’t mind some extra entertainment while at the game. However, the music, scoreboard games etc.,is so old and tired THAT for the money I pay I’d either like nothing or something new and creative.( Keep the kiss Cam).
Have you been to many Freedom games? Pretty entertaining, sitting right down by the players – same kind of entertainment shtick as at GABP, more primitive much less impersonal though.
And yes the location of GABP is terrible. I worked DT cininnati for nearly 20 years and my wife and I lived downtown for the 1st two years of GAPB. The stadium is cut off from the downtown. Nobody sticks around to go to bars (there aren’t any) or restaurants etc after the game anymore because it is too hard to get to those that are there.
Back in the day when Riverfront was around before Ft. Washington way was re-routed fans would come and spend the day on a Sat. shopping etc, and then go to the game. It made for a big retail day. After GABP opened that business dried up. Hell even the Cincy Shoppe, which sold Red’s hats and gear closed its doors last year. Unless you are a Cincinnati Downtown lifer, like my wife (who’s worked downtown now for 24 years)and I are, you might not be aware of how isolated the GAPB stadium is.

But there’s a big difference between a ten minute walk down streets full of interesting things and a ten minute walk down desolate streets. Is the area around the park closer to the latter?

...assuming you're going to Newport.
I know when I go to games, coming down 71, I’d rather park downtown than sit in rush hour traffic to get across the bridge. If you’re parking downtown, there’s nothing to do around there, and the walk is in what I wouldn’t call the greatest part of town. Even if you park a few blocks up, you’re still likely to get accosted by bums or drug dealers. It doesn’t bother me too greatly, but it’s overall not a great situation, especially for those with kids.

471, actually.
I’ve still sat on that bridge for 10-15 minutes when there’s been games down there. It’s probably not as bad as the other one, and there’s probably shortcuts that I don’t know, but it’s still a pain in the ass.

If you are from out of town and you park in the stadium parking lots
It is not easy or convenient to get to downtown businesses. Hence many smaller businesses that relied to some degree on Sports traffic are gone.

i agree with you about the freedom games
9 bucks gets you right behind home plate, with a waitress. The only think I don’t like about those seats is the netting. The Freedom can make for a really nice night out. I wish Dayton didn’t sellout every game because I would love to get up there for a game. Louisiville is an excellent place to watch a game.

Not really.
The fact that Ft. Washington way is now much different changes the effectiveness of the location. Plus Broadway Commons was such a great opportunity for the city, but as we who have lived here for many years know: This city is just not very progressive or does it want to take any chances – like building a stadium near where African Americans live.

Bingo
This city’s inability to construct and actually enact any development plan pisses me off to no end. Especially now that I’m a resident. (I’ve always paid taxes since I worked in the city)
It’s a sad state of affairs when the corrupt politicians in KY aren’t just beating you at the game, they’re running circles around you. The next step is going to be a casino/entertainment complex in Newport/Covington, and I’d wager that it’ll be finished before The Banks.

Um... "between that area"?
Progressive Field and Quicken Loans Arena are literally right next door to each other. There’s nothing in between them because there’s no room for anything. The surrounding area is decently vibrant though. It’s Cleveland, so there’s plenty of bars.
