Farmers only a day late, 2 games short
Well, milb.com crashed out just now, so I don't have writeups for Sarasota or Dayton. I do know that Juan Francisco had 2 home runs last night, though. Louisville and Chattanooga both played early today, so I threw in those games.

LAST NIGHT
Triple-A: Jay Bruce was 2 for 4 in Louisville's 5-3 win. Paul Janish was 1 for 2 with 2 RBIs before getting lifted and sent up to Cincinnati to replace the fallen Jeff Keppinger. Danny Herrera went an inning and still hasn't allowed a run in 8 appearances in Triple-A.
Double-A: Chattanooga got 6 runs in the first 2 innings and beat Carolina 6-4. Chris Valaika was 0 for 3, and Shaun Cumberland was 0 for 4. Josh Roenicke struck out 1 in the ninth for his 8th save.
TODAY
Triple-A: The Bats beat Scranton 11-6. Bruce was 3 for 3 with 2 walks, falling a single short of the cycle.
Double-A: Valaika and Cumberland were both 2 for 4 as the Lookouts beat Carolina 6-2. Ben Jukich threw a complete game, striking out 5.

The Bruce
Funny stuff. Plate discipline? Sure, two walks and 3-3. NIce, young man.

More specifically...
A 2B, a 3B and a HR (the other two were line drives that nearly cleared the wall) to go with the 2 BB.
This kid has me more excited than Hamilton did! :D

You know... I should actually read the above content.
I’m just absolutely pumped for Bruce to be wearing Red in a couple weeks (I’m hoping/assuming)

Was Herrera in AA a couple of weeks ago?
I haven’t been following him, but I vaguely recall him being the other part of the Hamilton-Volquez trade.

Jeesh. Two walks for Bruce?
That bum. That kid needs to learn how to get the bat off of his shoulder. Anyone else think he needs a wake-up call at Sarasota?

Would the Rays really pass on Alvarez?
I know they have The Housewife, but wasn’t everyone saying that Alvarez is/was other-worldly?

Crow scares me
This is the draft where the Reds badly need to draft a lefty starter. Hopefully Matusz will fall.

you don't draft by need
you draft by the best available talent. Of course there are two ways of judging that, it could be the most polished player, or the best raw talent, the most polished player is the safer bet and will reach the big leagues faster, but raw talent may have a higher ceiling but may take more time in the minors and may be less likely to reach the majors.

Impressive performance by Bruce
He is as good as pure hitter as I have seen come through the Reds system since Barry Larkin. Votto,Bruce, Walt, get me a RH bat and we will have our version of Pujols,Rolen and Edmonds.
I am going to see Homer Bailey tomorrow. The Reds really need to move him to the bullpen for 2 reasons:
1.They badly need a high leverage arm in the backend of the pen. The current guys are all middle reliever talent.
2.Homer from my past experience, has little chance to be a successfull starter in the majors anytime soon. He has no viable changeup. Literally. I have seen him twice this year and saw him in AAA before his intial promotion last year and he simply hasn’t improved on it. AAA is typically the level where guys that lack a good changeup get exposed unless they throw in the high 90’s consistantly. While Homer’s velocity will increase as the year progresses, that won’t make him a successfull major league starter. The Mets Pelfrey also got exposed in AAA because he likewise lacks a major league offspeed pitch. He won’t last in the majors either starting, to he developes one. The Reds need to move him into the pen and let him throw gas. He needs a little more time to warmup than most pitchers, which also makes him ideal for the 8th/9th inning role.
Trust me, you move him to the pen and he will destroy those AAA pitchers. But not as a starter.

Can Edinson not teach him a changeup?
Or at least offer some pointers?

He can offer help, but it is like people that can't do math.
Ed has always had a good changeup. That is why I prefer fastball/changeup guys over fastball/curveball guys. It is easier for them to develope into a starting pitcher.
Homer may be another 5 years away from developing a changeup he can use in the majors.

It also doesn't help
That nearly all reports I’ve heard on Homer indicate he may be a bit of a, um, phallus.

i read he was all ears for Soto
he may just not listen to morons.
But he is a Washington Monument. His arrogance is well known. But that can help two, confidecne means two things, either he knwos he will get hitters out so he has no fear, or he knows he will get hitters out so he makes the same mistakes because the last game was a fluke.

Good point
And I agree that confidence (even overconfidence) is key to being successful. Just look at his Texan counterpart Clemens. :)
Also, has anyone sampled Homer’s, Barry’s, or Junior’s wine? Check it out HERE.

he is only 22
and if he doesn’t need a lights out changeup. If he can just show one every now and than he will be ok, his fastball is a plus pitch and so is his curveball. The curveball can work as an offspead pitch two. I think it is way early to pronounce his major league career as a starting pitcher to be dead. The biggest thing he needs is command. I just think with the stuff Bailey has he can survive as a two pitch pitcher who occasionally mixes in a changeup. Over the long term (like the course of his career) he will need a changeup because his velocity will drop but right now he can over power hitters with a well placed fast ball and give them a change of pace with an unhittable curveball.

lol, is that true?
Nice term. I never really looked at his personal life, just what he did on the mound. Maybe he need to spend a little more time watching film and practicing rather than searching for his next ladyfriend from the crowd(lol).
Maturity, maturity and more maturity. Another reason why to put him in the pen.

Like I said
Most everyone’s opinion of him seems to be that he’s a little surly, full of himself, and not prone to instruction. I sure hope it’s not true or he grows out of it, because I think he’ll be a monster if he ever “gets it”.
