Game 39: Reds vs Fish
Miami Marlins at Cincinnati Reds, May 12, 2008 7:10 PM EDT
|
Marlins Alfredo Amezaga cf Jeremy Hermida rf Hanley Ramirez ss Jorge Cantu 3b Dan Uggla 2b Luis Gonzalez lf Wes Helms 1b Mike Rabelo c Burke Badenhop p |
Reds Corey Patterson cf Jeff Keppinger ss Ken Griffey Jr. rf Brandon Phillips 2b Joey Votto 1b Edwin Encarnacion 3b Adam Dunn lf Paul Bako c Aaron Harang p |
So the Marlins have been kicking ass this year, huh? They're 23-14 and 3 games up in the East. They are 11-5 on the road this season. They've won 7 straight. Super.
At least the Reds have Harang on the mound tonight. That's like a guaranteed win. What? He's 1-5. Damnit, Hitler was right!
Don't forget, andromache is representin' on Jeopardy tonight!

Im so tired of patterson… I almost rather see Dunn bat leadoff. No, Im not Bob Boone, C Pat just had been that bad
Find me on MySpace- http://www.myspace.com/mixfmkyle
If batting Dunn in the 2-slot gets him 50 more plate appearances a season...
Then hitting him 7th would… screw it, I’m not a mathtrician.

You'd think so
I mean, it’s by the creators of “Two and a Half Men,” for Christ’s sake! And the theme song is by the Barenaked Ladies. And I HATE the Barenaked Ladies. But I like the theme song and I like the show. It appeals to both the geek and the nerd in me. I think they won me over when the correctly stated that Superman is vulnerable to magic.
I’m certainly not holding it up as the best show on television by any stretch, but as traditional sitcoms go, it’s pretty decent. Plus there’s a strong “Roseanne” pedigree, so that helps. For someone jumping in, they might not enjoy it that much. But I’ve been with it for the duration, and I’m standing by it.
Pretty good summation of my feelings about Dayton, too, come to think of it.

i agree with everything brendan said
i started watching it from the beginning because it came on after HIMYM. I expected it to be terrible, but i’m starved for comedies. It was pretty funny the first week, and better the second week, and soon I started looking forward to it. The chararacter Sheldon is extremely funny, and the girl is indeed hot.

by Paul Householder on May 12, 2008 8:03 PM EDT up reply actions
Right now he's making 14.25 mil
That’s what I don’t understand. Cincy media is saying you would have to re-sign Dunn at 13 something and yet they never come up with any replacement ideas. For his age and production, I don’t understand giving up on Dunn
Hard to say now
Against it happening:
- The Phils regretted the last time they gave Burrell a big contract after a strong year.
- Pat Gillick doesn’t do extensions in the middle of the season.
- He’s not really a Philly-type of player, which is a lot like being a Cincinnati-type player. He’s never been that popular, and he’s always two strikeouts away from being booed.
For it happening:
- Gillick is likely in his last year, and his probable replacements are in-house. Gillick may let one of them do the extension since it’s their ship next year.
- I don’t see them signing Howard long-term, because of the strikeouts and his weight. I definitely don’t see them signing both Burrell and Howard, but I do see them signing one of them. They won’t have an established power hitter other than Utley in a couple of years.
- Despite the fickle support at home, Pat genuinely seems to like Philadelphia and has repeatedly professed his desire to stay. Could all be smoke, but I think it’s based in something sincere.

Patterson
Solid every time . . .
I’d like to hear Brantley rave about how Patterson keeps his shoulder in when he swings.
He is a part of our future...

He’s got a fucking explaination for everything. And it’s all made up on the spot.

A little bit
Listened to Fight Songs and Too Far To Care a few times and saw them once, but never got that into them. Is there a reference I’m missing?
Whenever I see the name "Ken"
I think of Rhett Miller saying “Take it, Ken” to introduce a solo.

isnt that dunns first sac fly in over a year?
by johnny cueto thinks we're sellouts on May 12, 2008 8:43 PM EDT reply actions
positive WPA
how about that? Fangraphs says that sac fly was a positive win-probability-added. That is, that was one of the very few situations where it’s worth it to trade an out for a run.
What I liked best is that Chris Welsh went out on a limb and said Adam should expand the strike zone on the 3-2 pitch.
Good call. Brantley would have waited until after the at bat before saying “with a 3-2 count you always need to expand the strike zone to protect the plate. See I was right.”
?
Brantley did say that

Oh, no doubt
Just would’ve been nice to have a solid arm in center on that throw.
Was anyone at that game last year against Cleveland where Hamilton threw out Jason Michaels???
sigh
if only there was a center fielder in the Reds farm system who would make us forget that legendary figure.
If you're not having fun, stop participating.
that is horrible
a freaking squib hit and a sac fly where a decent throw nails the guy
