Brett Myers vs Edinson Volquez

This is a bit of a mismatch, with Edinson making his NL debut against Philly's ace. But I guess that's what happens when our ace faces their garbageman.

I'd like to remind everyone of a quote from the other day, after Cueto became the first person to debut with 10 strikeouts and no walks. From Kent Mercker to John Fay: "You know what, Volquez is just as good."

Harang

Why did the Reds use Harang in Volquez's spot on Saturday? I think it would have been better for Volquez to face Eaton instead of the Phillie Ace in his debut. Any ideas?

by oneeyedjack on Apr 6, 2008 11:37 AM EDT   0 recs

I think

you want to get Harang as many starts as possible. If you get to match Harang against a poorer pitcher, so much the better. It increases the likelihood of a win.

I also remember that Edinson stayed back for an extended Spring Training start earlier last week. He may not have been on regular rest yesterday. I'll go check that...

I've got a plan and it's as hot as my pants...

by Man Mountain on Apr 6, 2008 11:42 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Harang's normal rest was also on Saturday

It's normal for a 5th starter to get moved around this time of year. We're just not used to having a guy worth seeing as a 5th starter. It feels...nice.

WHY SHOULD I CHANGE IT? HE'S THE ONE WHO SUCKS!

by Slyde on Apr 6, 2008 12:05 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

so harang is jewish?

You know...

...I tried to give it a chance, but it's been several days now, and I hate this new RR with the intensity of a thousand burning suns. It's so freakin' slow it makes Benjie Molina look like Ichiro in comparison.

In quick-moving threads

like game threads, I've taken to turning auto-update off, especially if I'm trying to keep up. But I agree, there are definitely some loadtime issues going on. Hopefully they'll get it squared away soon.

Please Note: I may be totally full of shit.

by jch24 on Apr 6, 2008 12:11 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I've long since turned auto-update off

But after hitting refresh, it takes 2-3 minutes for the page to load. I'm not exaggerating. I timed it. Short threads (less than a dozen posts, say) are fine, but anything longer than that gets slower and slower and slower. The more comments, the slower the thread.

And unlike the [new] tags, you can't start reading until the whole page has loaded.

I've basically given up on game threads. I hope they do "recap" threads more often, so those of us who can't deal with game threads have some place to discuss the game after it's over.

by BubbaFan on Apr 6, 2008 12:41 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

that's it

new game threads every 12 comments :)

Weird

While it's not as fast as before, I've not seen the 2-3 minute load times. What are you viewing it on? I'm using the latest build of FF with fasterfox/adblock/flashblock running.

Please Note: I may be totally full of shit.

by jch24 on Apr 6, 2008 12:49 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Yeah

Mine hasn't slowed down a bit. But I just got a new computer and it's real fast like, so maybe that's it.

by Obi Juan Kenobez on Apr 6, 2008 12:54 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Ditto

Latest version of Firefox. I, too have Adblack and Flashblock. Also NoScript.

Internet Explorer seems to load this site a little faster than Firefox, but I only use IE when there's no other choice. Maybe I'll try Opera.

by BubbaFan on Apr 6, 2008 1:09 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Ugh

Opera is a no-go. It's just as slow, and the keyboard shortcuts don't work. There's no way to find new comments that I can tell, aside from scrolling down and looking for the yellow ones.

well....

no falls, but i did manage to lock my keys in car (a first) SOBER. smoooooth. grabbed a ride home from the guardian angel from Wed. Band was blah.

See..

You should be drinking.. Then you wouldn't have locked your keys in the car..
Was the drummer named Dave and guitarist named Chuck? Those guys played with him last year.

my bad

I didnt make it to Arroyo, too far from home. I saw a band in a bar in KY, no idea who it was.

by obc2 on Apr 6, 2008 1:12 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I saw a band last night

The Dirtbombs. I don't think it's hyperbole to say that it was the most perfect rock show I've ever seen. If you ever get a chance to see them (and they're in the middle of a big tour right now), absolutely take the chance. It will blow your fragile little brain.

lmao

0 for 14 now. I'd say that's a fairly decent samply size for one batter vs one pitcher. Corey is, clearly, his bitch.

Nice job by Keppinger to get on base in front of Jr., incidentally.

Though of course I still think we should have Dunn batting (and getting on base) in front of Jr., too.

But what do I know?
