This team sure can mash when the game's out of reach.
But when they need a clutch hit, forget it. Hope someone asks Phillips about the 4 LOB today.

This team's offense is truly terrible
seriously. where do they have LOB statistics for team and individuals?

defensively, he's better than the other two
offensively, he’s one of the worst in the majors at doing the most important thing in baseball. in 2005 he had a -16.8 VORP. That means he cost his team 17 runs compared to a replacement-level hitter. On his career, he’s right around 0. He’s not good.

Value over Replacement Player
The number of runs a player would create over and above (or under and below) freely available talent.

given the 3 choices
I’d take Patterson. he is the best of the 3 defensively, a better base stealer (provided he ever gets on again). I’d hit him 8th
but the best move is bring up the Bruce

patterson may not have a high OBP but he doesnt stikeout as much, which is good for a leadoff hitter

no, strikes don't mean squat for a lead-off hitter
His primary job is to get on base. Patterson has shown no ability to do that in his career.

i disagree with that
you raise your chances to get on base making contact with the ball, while striking out gives you no chance what so ever

Wrong again.
If there were a leadoff hitter who struck out 60% of the time (i.e., about 400 times a season) but got on base the other 40% of the time, he would be a pretty good leadoff hitter.
At least it wasn't Grady Little.

I don't want any of these jokers leading off
but in comparison, yes, I’ll take Freel given their career averages. Patterson’s speed and little extra power are nice, but over the course of a season Freel will be on base about 35 times more than Patterson will.
There’s no versatility that makes up for that kind of drop.
