cause for concern

from hals blog a few days ago

Bailey was instructed to pretty much toss his curve ball into File 13 and go with his fastball, slider and changeup. That’s a tough thing because Bailey always relied on that curve and likes to revert to it when he gets in trouble.

I thought his curveball was pretty decent. I thought Doug did something showing us he had good command and received good results with his Curveball. I only saw him pitch on TV twice last year, once that horrible game against Philley when he was hurt.

might be just a temporary thing

Assuming it’s even true.

I know when the Yankees were preparing Chien-Ming Wang for the big leagues, they told him he had too many pitches, and they wanted him to cut down and concentrate on just a few. They were also concerned about the possibility of injury. He’s been adding more pitches to his repertoire, now that his endurance has built up.

I listened to most of Chien-Ming Wang vs CC Sabathia pitching duel today.

Good stuff.

Chien-Ming has singlehandedly kept the Yanks out of the basement so far this season. I think that guy deserves an extension. (Seriously.)

And hey, break up the Tampa Bay Rays!

The Yankees...

...told Wanger that they don’t like to sign young pitchers to big contracts because they are more prone to injury than position players.

Wang has been good, but Pettitte has probably been more reliable.

The Yanks’ young guns have been disappointing. They’re talking about sending one or both of them back down to the minors for more seasoning. Volquez and Cueto have been so solid in comparison.

Game Recap

San Fran- Might be the only team in the NL that is worst then the Reds
Barry Zito- Not sure if the offense is that good, or Barry Zito is really really that bad…
San Fran Bullpen- Only gave up 2 runs in 7 Innings {2 BP solo shots}
Reds Bullpen- I still do not understand why Todd Coffey is on this team
BP- Careless misplay, but a great day offensively
Ede- Finished strong this April
Edison V- Wow!

Thanks

I missed the last half of the game. Watching Zito reminded me that I had a pound and a half of ground beef in the fridge that I was supposed to make into meatballs tonight.

I think the SFG bullpen has been pretty good so far this season.

But this Misch fella who mopped up Zito’s mess just got called up for them today, right?

And Barry Zito has been very very bad so far this season.

So other than that getting some of that whole mojo/confidence thang goin’ (See: Phillips, Brandon), I don’t know that today’s game tells us too much about the offense.

FVA came up with it a few weeks ago

and has been easing it into rotation. This may be the first time it’s been used to describe anybody but Todd Coffey.

I don't understand why our best players need so much rest.

Griffey I can see. He is older than dirt.

Dunn, though, is just 28.

by Nick Papageorgio on Apr 27, 2008 10:22 PM EDT up reply actions

Have you ever been 6'6", 270lbs?

Actually, I think Dusty is trying to do with Dunn what he did with both EdE and BP. Both of those gents took a “mental” day and then came out smacking the ball after the day off. I think he’s hoping the same Jedi mind tricks will work on Dunn.
