I've defended Belisle

I think quite fairly, but I did want him to have more starts at AAA. I wasn’t convinced he’d been challenged enough

I'm sorry

I really want him to be good too. But he just cannot pitch with runners on base. I dunno what do you all think? One more chance and then we bring up Homer?

agreed

I backed Belisle, and just like with everybody else I won’t give up on him after one appearance. However, dude needs to get hitters out before I back him as my official candidate of choice.

by Slyde on Apr 21, 2008 8:43 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Homer can't efficantly retire batters. I think 2 starts for Belisle is a little quick.

Unless his next start is a complete disastor I would give him a little time.

If his next start is like this then he has to get the hook.

He can be serviceable. The Reds have to find a five starter though. you can’t just write off every fifth game.

standing

I always liked Matt Belisle, he is in the same catagory as EZ Ramirez as far as my baseball heart is concerned, and I don’t really know why.

I am looking over gameday and his velocity seems down. Most of his fastballs are 87-89, he has hit 90 a few times and 91 once or twice. Maybe he has reached that “Dead Arm” period” although “Dead arm” periods have gone the way of scurvey and polio.

This is just was only one start. I like his velocity, it was down tonight but he is usually 91-93, with a decent breaking ball, and an excellent K/BB ratio. I have said it before comepare his 2007 stats to Harangs 2004 stats, and most of the periphals are comparable. I am not penciling him in for 6 CG’s, 230 innings, 200 K’s, but I think he can be a servicable mid-rotation guy.

by justin007000 on Apr 21, 2008 8:41 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

he suceeded in a way, but his WHIP was a little high for a relief pitcher

if he struggles with men on base, bullpen work probably isn’t for him. You can’t have a relief pitcher who can’t pitch with men on base, because a big part of reliefing is cleaning up the proceding pitchers mess.
