Game15 Thread: Reds at Cubs

The set of active Reds have a pretty good combined record against Zambrano (.268/.384/.463), so maybe there's a chance of some offense tonight. I'm still not panicking, but I'm getting frustrated. This has not been a fun team to watch over the last 4 games. At this point, I don't care so much about wins and losses (as long as they win), I just want some entertainment value for my time spent.
Josh Fogg has got to be seeing what Belisle and Bailey are doing in the minors, right? I'm not convinced that either of them would necessarily out pitch Fogg right now, but you have to hope that their success in the minors will provide a little motivational boost to Fogg for this start. He's probably not pitching for his job quite yet, but he shouldn't feel comfortable, that's for sure.
It seems with Soriano going on the DL and Corey Patterson back in town, the Cubs are having Patterson-envy. That's why they've recalled Eric Patterson to take Soriano's place. Now I can finally play the "Our Patterson is better than your Patterson" home game I got for Christmas!

its pretty cool
when there is only one spot in the rotation you kinda cringe about. i could get used to this.

Winds blowing out at 15-25 mph.
That’s pretty much the same as last night, correct?
Red Reporters, when viewing the front page, don't forget to scroll down and look for "Features" on your left and "Fanposts" on your right. Don't get stuck in the middle!
The lineup
From Fay:
Corey Patterson cf
Jeff Keppinger ss
Ken Griffey Jr. rf
Brandon Phillips 2b
Adam Dunn lf
Edwin Encarnacion 3b
Joey Votto 1b
Javy Valentin c
Josh Fogg p
No Bako. I’m crushed.
Josh Fogg's career numbers at Wrigley?
Not awful:
10 starts
3-5 4.53
59.2 IP
30 ER
52 H
17 BB
35 K
8 HR
So according to my math, Fogg could pitch seven innings tonight and only give up .939 of a home run.

And three of those eight home runs were hit by Sosa.
So unless Sammy’s suitin’ up tonight, Fogg should be clear to go the full nine ;)

And he gets a base hit. Maybe should have been an error, but hey, he’s on base.

Jay, you’re not coming up, so stop acting like you should.
WHY SHOULD I CHANGE IT? HE'S THE ONE WHO SUCKS!
Then again
Maybe the pitcher just sucks.
Hairston hit a nearly identical homer. A two-run shot. The same kid got both balls.
Looks like Brandon Larson finally got a starting job again
Brian Reith is on the same team. So, you fans who are desperate to relive 2003 all over again, you know where to go.
WHY SHOULD I CHANGE IT? HE'S THE ONE WHO SUCKS!
Was he any good offensively?
All I can remember is that he was a horrible defender… or was it the other way around?
Having second thoughts
As my train is having some issues now, I think I may be better off watching the game on tv at home and drinking beer that I have already paid for.

WHY SHOULD I CHANGE IT? HE'S THE ONE WHO SUCKS!
well, yeah
2nd a 3rd vs. 1st and 3rd. it didn’t work out that way, but that’s just fortuitous for him.
I was thinking more of the fact that it's 2 outs with the pitcher up
the bases matter less there, in my mind.
WHY SHOULD I CHANGE IT? HE'S THE ONE WHO SUCKS!
And this isn't me defending EdE because I like him
I’d be defending just about everybody there. Except maybe Freel because he makes so many mistakes on the bases. :)
WHY SHOULD I CHANGE IT? HE'S THE ONE WHO SUCKS!
or phillips because you don't like him

It DOES make a difference
You would much rather have guys on 2nd and 3rd than 1st and 2nd, just if there is a wild pitch, which Zambrano is not above doing. That play really illustrates why I’m learning to really dislike EE as a player. It’s just bone-headed. His baseball IQ is just not very high. He has skills, to be sure, but he is so frustrating. I know lots of you like him but I’m getting tired of his inconsistency and idiotic mistakes.
Our offense is hit or miss…..all or nothing and Krivsky really needs to do something to better balance this roster.
Devils Advocate
but the offense sucks right now. Shouldn’t they take every chance to get runs when they can?
WHY SHOULD I CHANGE IT? HE'S THE ONE WHO SUCKS!
agreed but...
only if it’s even a slim chance. He had zero chance. You are right, though. The offense has looked horrible. And what I meant by all or nothing is that, suddenly, they’ll score 10 in a game. We just don’t have the right blend of players. We’re poor defensively, especially in range and we have too many home-run hitters who don’t hit consistently. I just think Krivsky needs to see that this general group has not won together and he needs to start tweaking it somehow.
... at least Fogg took the first pitch...

Wow... Z is putting it down the gutter to Fogg...

umpires missed seven calls a game
according to quest tec
If the computers get it right all the time, then why not just use them to call balls and strikes?

yay! no runs
the baby under the basket is getting it done.
WHY SHOULD I CHANGE IT? HE'S THE ONE WHO SUCKS!
first of all
another first pitch out.
second of all, a tie is supposed to go to the runner.
C. 4 pitches, 2 outs.
"tie goes to the runner"
umpires will tell you that there is no such thing as a tie. But technically, in order to get a runner out, the throw has to beat the runner. A “tie” does not beat the runner.
Another K by Phillips.
replay shows Patterson was safe
Not that it matters, but why not use computers to make safe and out calls?
exactly...

Alright CP
You and that .265 OBP are starting to look worse and worse, call be damned
Patterson, Castro, and Bako, oh my!
What the hell
Stop swinging so damn early. It’s gonna be a 65 pitch complete game
Patterson, Castro, and Bako, oh my!
And tomorrow's a day game.
So no Griffey. Get ready for little ball on Thursday!
Maybe the Reds are trying to lose early tonight so they can rest up for tomorrow.
Awesome
Phllips decides not to swing that time. All three were strikes, pretty much right down the middle. Disappointing.
WHY SHOULD I CHANGE IT? HE'S THE ONE WHO SUCKS!
Reminds me of a game last year (I think)
Where BP had the tying run on third, and the bat never left his shoulder. Just completely pathetic.
Patterson, Castro, and Bako, oh my!
this team is such shit right now
its really screwing up my life
Please stop pitching to Derrek Lee and Mark DeRosa
for my own sanity. Thanks.

In all fairness
If all the U.S. had to reply on was Josh Fogg, we would have given up when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor.
Did you see the look on his face?
Fucking HILARIOUS, Foggy. Get the fuck off my team.

I think that baby is going to... uh... expire...
That baby will not be pining, it will be passed on. This baby will be no more. It will have ceased to be. it will have expired and gone to meet its maker. This will be a late baby. It will be a stiff. Bereft of life, it will rest in peace. it will be pushing up the daisies. It’s almost rung down the curtain and joined the choir invisible. This is an ex-baby to be.

Are We Done With Corey Patterson?
He was hot for the first week of the season, but he has been HORRIBLE since. As a leadoff hitter, he is hitting about .225 and has a OBP that is WAY under .300. I want my leadoff hitter to GET ON BASE, and he doesn’t do it.
