Do you have the gameday?
I can never seem to find it on mlb.com

by The Crushinator on Mar 3, 2008 1:48 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Right here
http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/gameday/y2007/gd.html?2008_03_03_cinmlb_minmlb_1

To get it in the future, just change the date (first thing after the question mark) and the teams (it matters who is home and away).

ok
But what page do i do that on? Scoreboard, the main page, where?

by The Crushinator on Mar 3, 2008 1:59 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

sorry
I meant for you to just modify the URL that I posted above.  I don't believe that MLB.com makes these gameday links public, probably a "beta test" type thing for any new features they add.  They don't want too many people using it if it's not fully functioning.

Reds put 2 more on the board
A. Phillips doubles, Hopper singles (and Phillips doesn't score, quel suprise!).  Griffey grounds out and Dunn singles.

Reds lead 3-1 in the bottom of the 3rd.

Just so everyone's aware
He may be out with a quad, but prior to that Jay Bruce was batting a super-Hamiltonian .500 with hits in every game he'd played.  Norris can't drive in the man on the second.  Something to think about, Dusty.

This warms the cockles of my Dunn-loving heart
From C. Trent: "Strike 1 to Dunn. I was expectinng him to lob it in there and Dunn put in into the pond, instead, he goes the other way, down the 3rd base line where there was a huge hole and Hopper scores easily."

Ahhhh, maturation as a hitter.  The Dunn haters of the world can go fornicate themselves.

Anybody going to go pick it up today? I am thinking about going and getting it next week when Ill be on spring break and it wont cause me to fail any exams. I thought 2K7 was kind of clumsy and the minor leagues were weak.

"Harang
...is a number 3 starter, maybe number two on a championship team"

Listening to the Twins broadcast of the game via mlb audio.  They seemed to think Bronson is a 3 or 4 starter on a championship team (probably true) and that Harang would be a 3, possibly 2.  Have they looked at his numbers?  I don't have them in front of me but he bested Jake Peavey in some of those saber-metric-tooth-tiger stat thingys right?

Harang is a number 1!  Sure championship teams have more than one ace, but that does not make Harang any less of one!

Tanzen!

by Verka Serduchka on Mar 3, 2008 2:32 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Maybe they've been spoiled by Johan?
It seems as if very few people outside of Cincinnati realize Harang's worth.  He's pitched comparably with the best of the NL over the last couple years, and I would back him one on one against anyone else.  I harp on it a lot, but I saw him match C.C. Sabathia last year, scoreless inning for scoreless inning.  If he's not a #1, it's only because you have an absolute top of the line pitcher on your team.

by Brendanukkah on Mar 3, 2008 2:36 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Harang
The only playoff team that I think he would clearly be lower than a #2 on last year is Cleveland.  A case could be made on the Angels, but he pitched almost 40 innings more than Escobar, so I put Harang as their #2.  He'd have been the #1 on Colorado and the Yankees and given that he pitched almost 50 more innings than Hamels, he'd probably be the #1 on Philadelphia.  I'd probably put him behind Webb and Beckett (last season, at least), but not be so much that he'd be an afterthought.

But all of that doesn't matter, cause he's ours for the foreseeable future.  Yay us!

Aces Wild
Ok, so when a team has more than one really amazing pitcher is there still an understanding that one person is number one and the other number two?  Or is it just a formality to line up the rotation against your opponents staff?

Or do they all where t-shirts under their uniforms, that say
"thing one" and "thing two," etc., waiting for a rainy day to wreck havoc on the house some poor, unsuspecting kid?

Tanzen!

by Verka Serduchka on Mar 3, 2008 2:59 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

well
I took their statement to mean that he would be the third best pitcher on the team, not necessarily a "number three" in terms of role.  Obviously, he's a top of the rotation quality pitcher, regardless of which day he pitches.

Even with the Indians...
Just because of his experience, I'd pitch Harang #2 in front of Carmona.
[Insert Witty Phrase Here]

by crolfer on Mar 3, 2008 5:08 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Based on last year's contenders
I'd say that he'd be #1 on the Rockies, over Francis.  #2 or 3 on the Red Sox is probably right.  Not ahead of Beckett, but ahead of Schilling at this point IMO (a healthy Schilling, ie: 2007).  On the Indians I'd have Sabathia and Carmona ahead of him based solely on last years performance.  Diamondbacks he'd be number 2 behind Webb.  Of course that assumes that the teams keep the #1 they already had.  I think many of these teams could remain competitive with Harang replacing their ace.  It's kind of a strange hypothetical.  I think he could be a number one on the Yankees (ahead of Wang), and they're perennially a Championship contender.  It all depends on what surrounds someone.  Halladay, for instance, could theorhetically be a number 1 on a Championship team, but as long as the Yanks and Sox are in their division, it's a longshot to happen.

So, uh...
Scott Saurbeck is not really making a case to be on the roster, huh?  1 IP, 3 H, 3 ER, 2 BB.  His ERA is now 27.00.  Reds trail 4-3 in the 6th.

I was looking at some stats..
..and yo, Chris Dickerson strikes out a lot.

With no disrespect to Chris, what exactly is the purpose of the Chris Dickerson Experiment?  Does he fit into the Reds' future plans?  If so, where?  Is he experienced?  Has he ever been experienced?

I offer that he's an older Drew Stubbs
with Stubbs probably projecting to have a brighter future.

Oh, and Dickerson's the fastest guy in camp.  Best case scenario: Late inning defensive replacement.

by Brendanukkah on Mar 3, 2008 4:46 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

You're right
I don't think there is a compelling case to be made at this point for Dickerson to make the team out of camp outside of an injury or 3.  He is superfast, and he's got tools.  But he should be about 8th or 9th on the outfield depth chart at this point

by Slyde on Mar 3, 2008 4:50 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Actually
Just looked at PECOTA and BP projects Dickerson to be 3.1 wins over replacement player.  Freel is at 2.4 WARP and Hopper is 1.7 WARP.  Maybe Dickerson isn't so bad after all?

Of course, Bruce projects to 4.6 WARP.  So, uh, please start him.

Dusty hearts Dickerson
Didn't you read Fay's blog today?
On the healthy outfielder front, Baker raved about the improvement Chris Dickerson has made.

"He's improved his bat a lot," Baker said. "He's a guy they don't mention much but he's a ball of ability. He has one of the best arms in camp. He's one of the best runners, a good outfielder.

"He's make some adjustments and improvements. I've seen more improvement out of him than anyone in camp - from what I saw in the beginning to now. He's really paying attention. He's doing some studying. That's what you like to see. His ceiling may be higher than anybody here. When you see the speed, the arm, he could be a five-tool guy. He's got the tools."

Others may swoon over the likes of Jay Bruce.  Dusty only has eyes for Chris Dickerson.

By my count...
..he's 10-for-16 in not-striking-out so far this Spring.

It might be time for Dusty to put on hold his great Search For This Year's Fifth Outfielder.

by Fat Vegas Alan on Mar 3, 2008 4:56 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Fifth outfielder?
I beg your pardon, but a five-tool player whose ceiling is "higher than anybody here" - that would include #1 prospect Jay Bruce - is not gonna be a fifth outfielder.

..I must take partial responsibility for the Patterson signing.

by Fat Vegas Alan on Mar 3, 2008 7:36 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

he and I happen to share a name
so I am pulling for him.  I pull for anyone with "dick" in his name, it is brutal in elemantary and middle school.

I like him more than Freel at this point.  Dickerson is faster, has more power, and I bet if could put up a better OPS than Freel, despite his penchant for striking out.  My outfield depth chart for 2008 would by Griffey, Dunn, Bruce, Dickerson, Hopper.  I would try to trade, fail at that and DFA Freel, and amidt that signing a injury prone, max effort/minimal talent, super sub to a multi million/multi year dear.  The Reds still owe him $7M.

I just saw on rotoworld that Cincinnati signed Patterson, I would like to go on record:  "FUCK!".

The Dusty path to the World Series! (This is not an endorsement.)
