Reds projected to a winning season
Three guys at Yahoo Sports project the Reds to have a winning season (or at least a .500 season): Y! experts peer into a crystal baseball.
They aren't projecting the Reds of taking the division, but certainly aren't saying the Cubs will run away with it either.

Not to be a dick
I know everyone is still getting used to the new site, but I think this is the exact type of thing that is supposed to go into a FanShot. Just for future reference to everybody. Let your mantra be, if it's just a link and a description, FanShot it!
That being said, it's fashionable to pick the Reds to "surprise" this year. That leads me to believe that 2009 is their year.

FanShots is going to take some getting used to
For one thing, it might help if the list of current FanShots is above the fold (or above the scroll) on the front page. Right now, it is down near the bottom of the right-hand side column. Thus, I didn't even know it was there. I wonder if it can be bumped up so we can easily see if people are posting and discussing there too.
The season doesn't start until the Cincinnati Reds take the field! Reclaim The Opener!!
I don't want Fanshots more prominent
As far as I can tell Fanshots have very little value. If it's for "Hey, here's this neat thing I found" for God's sake don't move that up the page.
YOU DICK
Just kidding. Most of my posts are going to be FanShots I guess, so I'll just keep that in mind from here on out.
"Joe is baseball in Cincinnati...We can lose players, managers and coaches, but we can't afford to lose Joe Nuxhall." - Sparky Anderson
really?
I thought "FanShots" was for multimedia, like pics and video.
All Things Bubba: Because how can you not love a baseball player named Bubba?
sure, we all do
I agree that it's fashionable to pick the Reds as the sleeper, which makes them not really the sleeper, which sets them up for a fall... if we let expectations get too high.
As for me -- this year, if we get near .500 I think it will be a welcome change, and a harbinger of things to come. I'd be ecstatic with that. I'll be disappointed with less than, say, 76 wins.
For what it's worth, Tradesports gives the Reds a 47% chance of winning more than 78.5.
ooh!
I just noticed I can 'unrecommend' your comment. Don't make me do it!

The one next to "actions" that says "reply"
Or just keystroke it and hit "R" when the comment you want to reply to is highlighted.

I think FanShots are quick hits
and FanPosts replace diaries. The reason I think this a FanShot is because it is basically a link without much analysis. It goes back to the whole needing 300 words to post a diary thing. I think the idea of FanPosts is to present new ideas to the group. FanShots is more of a "Hey, lookie what I found!"

Nah
a fan shot is something 'ol Bronson aims in one of his groupies' eyes backstage after one of his putrid concerts.

I feel like Brooks
Dear Fellows,
I can't believe how fast things move on the new blog. I saw an fanpost when I was a kid, but now... they're everywhere. The world went and got itself in a big damn hurry. The parole board got me into this... reds blog, called "Red Reporter", and a job posting fanshots in SB Nation. It's hard work, and I try to keep up, but my hands hurt most of the time. I don't think the SB Nation family likes me very much. Sometimes after work I go to the park and feed the birds,I keep thinkin' shortstopsv2 might just show up and say 'Hello'. But he never does. I hope wherever he is, he's doin' okay and makin' new friends. I have trouble sleeping at night; I have bad dreams like I'm falling. I wake up scared. Sometimes it takes me a while to remember where I am. Maybe I should get me a gun and rob the SB Nation so they'd send me home. I could shoot the manager while I was at it, sorta like a bonus. I guess I'm too old for that sorta nonsense anymore. I don't like it here, I'm tired of being afraid all the time. I've decided not to stay. I doubt they'd kick up any fuss, not for an old crook like me.

I mean this seriously
I really dislike the new nomenclature on this site. A lot.
I think it would be a welcome improvement to allow each SB Nation site to choose the specific titles of the sections. For instance, if the "FanShots" (NO SAPCES!!111) section were called "Quick Hits" like JD is used to putting up, I bet sid would have been more likely to use that function.
I doubt it would be that disorienting to folks visiting from other SB Nation sites and it might better engender in the community a feeling of ownership .
If it's all part of SB Nation's branding, then may God have mercy on your techie souls.
"FanShot"? Fuck a bunch of that.
Plus ca change...
Hey.
Sometimes that no-space thing works though. To wit:

At least it wasn't Grady Little.

Hey, here's this thing I found...
Some Orioles fans are bashing our new centerfielder/lead-off man.
Yeah, I know. We're not yet too fond of him ourselves but c'mon.. friggin' Orioles fans?

re:
We're bashing him because he sucks. I'm sad for you guys that you're going to have to put up with Corey. He's one of the most outrageously frustrating players you'll ever see.
Trust us. Or go ask Cubs fans.
Enjoy the legacy of Milt Pappas!
