Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

Spring Training Game Thread: Homer takes on the Twins at 7:05pm

 vs

As you may remember, Homer didn't look so hot in his last outing.  I think Louisville is inevitable at this point but hopefully he can start to do some things that will give Dusty and Krivsky confidence to bring him up if needed early in the season.  Sure would like to see it start to click for him soon.

Tonight's lineup:
Ryan Freel RF
Corey Patterson CF
Brandon Phillips 2B
Adam Dunn DH
Edwin Encaracion 3B
Scott Hatteberg 1B
Jeff Keppinger SS
Norris Hopper LF
Paul Bako C

Homer Bailey P

And when the time comes, Gameday.

Wow
Would I be instantly condemned to hell for thinking I'd go there knowing the seed from whence they were created?

...you have a plan for withdrawl.

He's not.
If he were black he could play every day.

And, of course, the game is being delayed.

I was hoping to go to this game...
...but I arrived in Sarasota at almost 10pm, so it was too late.

Not sure if I'd be up for driving an hour to the Twins' ballpark after driving all day, anyway.

Sounds like you didn't miss much
The Reds offense had nothing going.  Homer pitched pretty well.  4 IP, 1 run, 2 BB, but no K's.  Volquez pitched two scoreless innings and struck out two more bustas.

I'm looking forward to your updates and eyewitness reports.  Have fun in Flo Rida.

I thought...
...it was Flordia.  ;-)

I will probably go the Pirates game tomorrow.  The team with no parking at their stadium.  But then, I guess they don't really need it, given the number of fans that attend their games...

I am not going to the Astros game Saturday.  It's too damned far.  Maybe I'll go to a Reds minor league game and see Jay Bruce and Paul Janish, if they're playing at home.  (The Reds haven't released a minor league schedule, or at least I haven't seen one.)

So...
I went to Pirates.com to see what tickets were available for today's game.  Survey says....none.

Are the baseball gods mocking me for making fun of Pirates attendance?  It couldn't be sold out, could it?

I tried calling, but they're closed for Good Friday.  How can you be closed for Good Friday when there's a game that day?

Guess I'll just go over and see if it's really sold out.  It's all of 7 miles away, so no big deal if it is.

The gods aren't mocking you.
They've taken the day off as well.  One of their homies is down.  Show some respect.

youll be able to get in
even if they're sold out online, there will be GA tickets available at the window, or there will be scalpers. you'll get in.

volquez innings
Only 2 innings?  Is he not being stretched out to start?
2-0 count: one pitch, one zone

by rojosoto on Mar 21, 2008 10:05 AM EDT reply actions

That does seem weird
But per the Fay, they did it to line up the OD rotation:

Volquez pitched only two innings Thursday in relief of Homer Bailey because Volquez was pitching on short rest.

"(We did that) in order to get in sync for the rotation," Baker said. "Fogg did the same thing the last time. We figured Homer could handle starting more than coming out of the pen. It takes him a long time to warm-up."

Also, Belisle has a sore forearm and is officially out of the running for a rotation spot.  Hopefully it's no big thing, but I wonder if his leap in IP will hold him back this year.

That's nothing
Josh Fogg got a 9 seed, battling Kyle Lohse.

Will the real Homer please stand up?
The Homer Simpson pic looks more like Adam Dunn, than Homer Bailey. At least it's how I imagine Adam Dunn looking when he's kickin back at home.
