Spring Training in Sarasota - Advice?

I have eight vacation days I have to use or lose before the end of the month, and I've decided to drive down to Florida to take in some sunshine and a few spring training games.

I've never been to Sarasota before.  Any tips?  Hotels or restaurants you would recommend...or recommend I avoid?  Other things to see and do in the area?  (I am already planning to see Bok Tower and the Mote Aquarium.)

Do the Reds spring training games sell out?  And how's the stadium security?  Will they hassle me if I bring in camera gear (like a monopod), or are they laid back, like at minor league games?

And does anyone know anything about the minor league spring training games?  Are they free?  How do I get a schedule?

Any advice gratefully accepted...
