Community Prospect Rankings: #5
It looks like Drew Stubbs has the 4th spot in the system locked up, so let's move on to spot #5. I have added everybody that appears in the top 10 for either Doug or John SIckels. Let us know if you think someone is missing. I have a feeling the direction the next two votes will go, but I don't want to be leaving someone off the list if you think we should have them as an option.

Valaika
Can’t get to the majors soon enough. Wouldn’t it be nice if he was ready this year?
Bruce Bonser? Boone Bonser? Boot Bonser? BOOSE BONZER?

Valaika swings lik a girl (well not a hardcore softball bitch)
I don’t see him as being ML ready to hit MLB pitching any better than Yanni in the near future.
I can’t access his ML stats (me comps got a virus) but I remember reading about him and reviewing the hilarious fanshot of him hitting.

um
there are stats up above for 2008.
We’’re in process of trying to a guy with a trade record of working with pitches
Yeah I saw the abreviated version and they look OK
But not being very statheaded I also like to look at the stuff that sabredudes find boring like Games, PA, hits, double, triple, HRS, SO, BB etc. – BTW DO you need a valet at Red’s Fantasy Camp as I said I could be available (a cheap too).

i voted Valaika
shortstops that can hit are a rare breed. as long as he sticks at SS, and its looking like he might. but even as a 2B he would be above average.

and another thing
Krivsky was one hell of a draft maven. Frazier, Stubbs, Soto, Lotzkar, Valaika, Roenicke, Mesoraco, and Dorn were all drafted in the two short years he was here. of course, Krivsky’s picks should be at the top of our system right now, being drafted the past few years, but he was pretty sharp in his top round selections. these were the players Krivsky drafted in rounds 1-3 in the ‘06-’07 drafts:
Drew Stubbs
Sean Watson
Chris Valaika
Devin Mesoraco
Todd Frazier
Kyle Lotzkar
Zach Cozart
Scott Carroll
Neftali Soto
only Watson, Cozart, and Carroll have not showed up in our votes so far, but i dont think anyone would call them busts. add Roenicke and Dorn as great late round picks and it’s not hard to determine who is responsible for the strength and depth of this system right now.

i didn't like the firing
walt the stalt was brought on board last jan. to what? that’s right observe and advise.
I wrestled with this
before going with Valaika. As with taking Frazier over Soto, it was going with a somewhat safer pick.
Valaika has hit at every level. If he sticks at SS, and there is increasing thought that he can, that adds to his value. Even if he moves to 2B, he has great value there with a solid glove and range. At worst, he’s a valuable utility guy.
Francisco could be a huge thumper, capable of 30 HRs. Then again, he could be Wily Mo. I’m just not yet sold on the plate discipline.
