RedsFest!

Tickets go on sale Monday for Redsfest, which will be Friday, Dec. 12 and Saturday, Dec. 13.  It's only $20 for a two day pass, which is an even bigger bargain considering that a one day pass is $15.

C. Trent has the details:

Current and former Reds players expected to attend Redsfest XI include Gold Glove second baseman Brandon Phillips, first baseman Joey Votto, outfielder Jay Bruce and Reds Hall of Fame outfielder Eric Davis.

The first 10,000 fans attending Redsfest each day will receive a free drawstring backpack and a Reds winter ski cap, courtesy of Kahn’s.

The Redsfest Main Stage will feature popular activities such as kids-only press conferences involving Reds players, a Reds Idol karaoke contest, a Hooters wing eating contest and the Reds Hot Stove Report with general manager Walt Jocketty and manager Dusty Baker. Reds starting pitcher Bronson Arroyo will perform in concert on Friday night.

A celebrity Wiffleball home run contest will be held on Friday evening at 6:30 p.m. featuring local media personalities as well as former Reds players, upcoming prospects and local celebrities. The home run contest will kick off the weekend of programming on the 10,000 square foot Gorilla Glue Field of Dreams, that will also include the Chipotle Wiffleball Tournament.

There's also a Texas Hold Em tournament, and if you knock out a Reds player, you get the jersey off their back.  I've never been to a Redsfest (been to a RenFest though), and I'm not likely to make it to this one, but damn!  It looks like a good time.

No word of a trivia competition, after Slyde provided such a dominating performance.  What will he dominate in this time?

Poll
Adventure, excitement: a Red Reporter administrator craves not these things. Still, what event will Slyde dominate, Sebulba style?

there will be an RR meetup

the question is who will attend. We love meeting new people. Still waiting to find the true weirdo of the bunch. Madville in person was much too normal.

THANKS YOU SLYDE FOR THAT GENEROUS INTRODUCTION

This been a year of transitions:
To SB nation, From the benign yet laissez fair JD to the Supreme Ruler Slyde, From Bush to Barack and from Adam to Bruce. Thusly (as the great #15 would oft pronounce) it is time for a big-time RR get together at Redsfest. It doesn’t appear that not too many Reds are going to be there, sooooo…if we ALL show up maybe we could hold a rally, carry placards, do something to get BP over SS, a decent Manager, more indecent cheerleaders, Red Menace as field manager, MM as hitting instructor and Scrabbles as couch coach…Together we can make a difference – YES WE CAN…

I’ll bring the beer.

Suggestion

Could maybe next year they replace the buffalo wings with a celebrity shotgun eating contest featuring members of the local media?

The Rice baseball media guide is out

And Paul Janish rated a photo this year. (He didn’t last year.)

Bubba, like Janish

was mentioned in the “Rice History and Records” section. Bubba still holds a lot of Rice hitting records (along with Lance Berkman).

The names underneath the names are their residential colleges. Like at Harvard. Or Hogwarts. ;-)

I think they use a computer, not a magic hat.

Though I get the impression that Will Rice is where all the cool kids end up. Not sure how, when assignments are supposed to be random.

you want to Sewanee, the School of the South?

Is it true that there’s a cheer that goes:

Sewanee, Sewanee
leave ’em in a lurch
down with the heathens
and up with the church!
GOOOOO SEWANEE!

because if that’s true, thats awesome.

...because there's already someone posing as Jacob Brumfield

The "University" of the South

though they don’t use that title anymore because an expensive PR firm in New York told them that if they got rid of it, teenage sophisticates from the Pacific northwest wouldn’t realize they were stuck on a mountain in Tennessee until after the first check cleared.

That is the cheer, though it usually begins with “Tigers, Tigers” and ends with “Yea, Sewanee’s right” rather than “go Sewanee.” It was a mocking and knowingly childish taunt that referred to the school’s stance on some dull schism between high and low anglicanism in the long ago.

I don't think there's anything wrong with his eye

He’s just one of those people who has one eye that opens more than the other. He looked a bit cockeyed in several of the photos I took of him when the Bats came to play the SWB Yankees.

He visage is that of a troubled and remote personage

He appears more prepared for the stage and screen than the batting cage.
He may not be a great baseball player buy I bet he gets more than his share of the young ladies (or possibly he’s a gay Jesus devotee).

Kinda reminds me of Mick…but not as a player
