Ken Williams wants speed for Nick Swisher

My question to Reds fans, would you trade Drew Stubbs for Swisher? Swisher had a down year, yes, but he had an absurdly low BABIP for his LD rates and has always been a very good offensive player. He is under contract reasonably for the next 4 years and could post some really gawdy power numbers in Cinci.
KW supposedly is looking for speed to add to his team and Stubbs seems like a good fit. Out of curiosity, is that a move you guys would be interested in?

High OBP, hits for power, switch-hitter
Is he actually a CFer? Even though, if he was in left with a CDick CF , that would work. I couldn’t see any reason why not. I’d throw in another fella for the deal, too.
Plus, Ohio Stater from Columbus. Folks would eat that shit up.
...because there's already someone posing as Jacob Brumfield
OF Defense?
So with that outfield, is the defense good enough to justify the offensive upgrade? I’ve only watched Swisher a few times, but never really noticed his defense one way or the other.

He's not good at defense
Swisher plays 1B and the outfield positions.
The Reds need to target him though since the team would benefit from Swisher’s OBP skills, power, age, and contract.

im not sure i would trade Stubbs for Swisher
but i would do a deal for Dickerson +.
Swisher played high school ball in Parkersburg WV and a friend of my brother’s played legion ball against him. Swisher was an all-state stud, but my friend struck him out twice and induced a weak grounder the next time. to this day he swears Swisher is a hack. said he was a hell of a nice guy though.

For a 37 year old shitty fielder
who is a fucking pain in the ass, and wears out his welcome were ever he goes. I know he is still an elite hitter but he does not put up “a-rod defense”. I feel like putting up “A-Rod money” for a 37 year old is a mistake.

Yeah
I think he probably could play good defense, but most of the time, he just doesn’t bother.
At his age, you’d think he’d be headed to an AL team.

Heh
Ken Williams wants speed for Nick Swisher
I’d even throw in a couple of joints.
Seriously, though, if you think you’d be getting the ‘06-07 Swisher, and not the ’08 version, the contract (3/$21M) is pretty reasonable. I’d certainly offer Dickerson+one of the 5th starters and see what Williams said.

fast the hell out of Cincy. He’s an FA

i only said that to piss dusty off, maybe he will resign.

Swisher
I would deal Ryan Freel and Gary Majewski for Swisher. Maj’s career in Cincy should be over.
Sounds good but i dont think theyd take that deal
Cause if my advanced metrics are correct they both suck… but then again im still testing them out.

Didn't we just get rid of a 38 yr old OF who used to be pretty good ?
However I’d trade Freel, Hopper and LLM (He’s a lot faster than he looks!) for Swishy but no prospects.

Swisher will be 28
I think people are overvalueing Dickerson and Stubbs here. I like Stubbs defense but his hitting I don’t think will be good enough to be a regular OF in the ML. I would love to have Swisher in LF for either one and some change. Can be righty when we need him to be. Neyer noted the other day that all his peripheral stats were at his career norms he was extremely unlucky with who he hit it too. If he came to Cincy we could have a .380 OBP guy. Something this team sorely needs. And the contract’s not bad at all.

I would feel pretty good about a deal for Swisher as well
But….
Swisher, who lost his outfield job late in the season, could go back to Oakland or to Boston, both of which preach patience for hitters. Swisher did not adapt to the Sox’s more aggressive style.
Which style of managing is Baker more likely to preach?

I keep trying to forget
that Dusty Baker is our manager. You have a point. Still he’s a good undervalued player.

I was being flippant
Though I can actually see where Ozzie Guillen could wreck a patient hitter’s approach at the plate.
I doubt Baker is as dogmatic as Guillen.

im not overvaluing Dickerson and Stubbs
i think the Sox may be undervaluing Swisher.
