If someone offers to pick up my check, I immediately reach for my wallet. Because inside is a note that says, "Say thanks."
It's T-Day, and as cliche as such a thing has become, it's still important to remember that there are things in life to be thankful for. Here's my list. I'd love to hear about yours.
- Timely hits.
- Title inspiration.
- Women's T-shirts and tanks.
- Day-long "A Christmas Story" marathons.
- Fall and winter leagues.
- Turkeys that can't fly.
- Sexy hand flips.
- Canada.
- Extra storage space.
- Young, live arms.
- Bad girls.
- Pitchers who are more than meets the eye.
- Nearly perfect television shows.
- Corey Patterson is a free agent. I think every fan of every team can be thankful for that.

First!
First to be thankful not to have to invite HE WHO SHALL NOT BE NAMED to my turkey dinner out of politeness to he and the Rosie Reds who still find him “deliciously sparky”!

You'll shoot your eye out!
I’m thankful for:
● One last spring in Sarasota.
● Reds blogs that put up with the occasional errant Yankees fan
● White House Chrismukkah cards
● Strangers on the Internet who e-mail you high school yearbook photos of your favorite baseball player.
● The fact that I’ve never done anything noteworthy enough that anyone would want to to post my high school yearbook photos on the Internet.
● Family, food, friends, and football! (Not necessarily in that order. ;-)

Go Cowboys!

I just watched a few episodes of Arrested Development season 3 last night
Damn that show was good.
Why have I been blogging for so long? It's certainly not because of the paycheck. Because I could be making a lot more money as a doctor or a professional athlete.

Edna Parker dies at the age of 115. This Thanksgiving is a sad one in my wife’s home town.

Lotsa things...
To be serious for once…
- Bugs
- My dogs
- My friends
- My family… every once in a great while…
- Music to fit my every mood.
- Choir and Band and the families that come with them
- A future that’s starting to look bright
- That I didn’t get caught when I smuggled Vinnie from my dad’s house in Texas.
- RR and the great people I’ve “met” on it.

Dunn
Top free-agent slugger may come cheap
Things have appeared oddly quiet for the biggest slugger on the free-agent market. That would be Adam Dunn, who may find his value isn’t quite what he had hoped (though we have to believe he doesn’t actually expect the $100 million that ex-Reds teammate Bronson Arroyo says he’s expecting).
I wonder if there’s any chance he’ll come back to Cincinnati? Maybe if they trade Arroyo…

My real thanks
Given a couple of hours before it’s too late.
- My kids – without them I’d be even more of a degenerate than I already am. They keep me grounded and sane, and are perpetual “perspective readjustment devices”.
- My girlfriend – Incredibly supportive of me even when she shouldn’t be, she has reaffirmed my basic trust in human beings.
- You guys – I love all of you on some level. The beauty of RR is that even though we may disagree, we generally do it in a mature manner. We also have fun, even when it’s good-natured tackiness/racism/mysoginy (if that’s possible?)
Bottom line: if we’re able to be on this site bitching about such inconsequential things as Reds baseball, we’re better off than 99% of everyone else on the planet. I’m incredibly thankful to be where I am in the world and to have the opportunities I do.

"good natured mysoginy"
I’m thankful for that, as is my damn hooker mother.
But seriously, I’m thankful for family and friends of course. I’m thankful for you all making being a fan of a team, even a team like the Reds, fun. And I’m thankful that all of us realize that sports are about fun and community, not about ripping off each others’ testicles or other such parts.

Rec'd for your bottom line
You speak the truth my friend.
I’m thankful for a whole buncha random crap, some important some not so much.
The inconsequential: Young guys talented enough to make me blindly hope for ‘09, Slyde and Rick for keeping up my favorite cyber home during the offseason, that whole 6 months I just got done with in Deliverance country (I feel all growed up), Stephen Curry’s jumpshot, and of course, Beanie Wells.
The consequential: Friends and family. Period. I’m lucky to have both being supportive and sources of counsel after all the stupid and ill-conceived decisions I’ve made over the past 12 months.

Cause every thanksgiving we get high as hell together and laugh. Apparently if Spiderman was actually anatomically spider like, his webs would shoot out of his boobs.

My Hedberg experience
As payment for services rendered to someone on their home computer I received two tickets to the Funny Bone at the Levee. We showed up, went through a fight to get in after we weren’t on the list, and sat down. It was Mitch Hedberg that night and I was in love immediately. It’s funny how some of the best burn out so quickly.

I'll miss Mitch always.
I was fortunate enough to work with Mitch on his first comedy special back in the mid-90’s. He had trouble looking up from the floor, and the crowd took a while to warm up to the unknown. The joke that finally won them over: “Man, I can’t wait to get off this stage, cause there’s a roll of lifesavers in my pocket, and pineapple is next.”
