As expected, Joey Votto was named the team MVP for 2008 and Edinson Volquez won the pitcher of the year award. According to Fay, Votto got all of the MVP votes, but strangely Volquez did not receive all of the pitcher votes. Also receiving votes were Francisco Cordero and Bronson Arroyo. I would have thought that Volquez would have been the unanimous selection.

Congrats to both. I'm sure they get a fancy watch or something.

Good thing Fay clarified his ballot

“He got all 12 votes…. I voted for Votto.”

Also, Hal Morris will be scouting for the Reds in the upper Middle West. Either the recession is pretty bad, or a Stanford MBA doesn’t get you as far as it used to.

Even worse

he was hired by the Pirates (I know, Reds fans have no right to criticize the Pirates)

An edit feature in these comments would be nice.

That's not even the Pirates' biggest recent move
The Pittsburgh Pirates hope Rinku Singh and Dinesh Patel really do have million-dollar arms. The two 20-year-old pitchers, neither of whom had picked up a baseball until earlier this year, signed free-agent contracts Monday with the Pirates. They are believed to be the first athletes from India to sign professional baseball contracts outside their country.

Boy do these guys have rude awakening coming:

From their blog:

We went with JB sir to breakfast at a great American breakfast eatery called Dennys…. At least the seats were very comfortable and… very clean.

Wednesday we will throw at USC for more scouts. We are ready and this time we will show our full power.

Krishna be praised – With this kind of release Patel and Singh will confound MLB batters

The sad thing is, the first two times I read that

I thought “I wonder why Cleveland would want pitchers from India”. Rec’d, Turtle.

what surprised me about this signing

is that I figured the Pirates would be recruiting in Somalia. They’ve already got brand recognition going for them. I guess it’s because they’re all about the money.

Brantley

I will guess Brantley voted for the vet’ran Arroyo. Volquez just didn’t know how to pitch.
