SIS --- Best Burger Edition
Another SIS? Re he eally? Yup....Tis the season.
As the site's resident sushi and burger aficianado it pleased me to see an article in the Cincinnati Enquirer today highlighting some of the best local burgers. Then i read the article. I havent been to ANY of those places, and I was perplexed at the burger fixins. Here's the link:
http://news.cincinnati.com/article/20081120/ENT01/811210311/1026
Personally I'm putting Tink's, Terry's Turf Club and Bard's Burgers atop the local rankings. Slyders in Dayton is pretty damn delicious also. But this is really about where y'all think the best burgers are locally, or even nationwide. What say you?

Burgers
I’ve had Zips, Quatmans, and Habits. All pretty good. I like the girth burger at zips. It’s a mett sliced down the middle splayed on a burger. I went to Gordos once, but didn’t eat. Had a Fatburger for lunch today actually. Not too shabby.

I know it's a chain and all
but the A1 Peppercorn Burger at Red Robin is my favorite, hands down.
I was unimpressed by Zips – crappy service doesn’t make up for slightly above average burger.
I can’t believe I never ate a burger at Habits. I spent lots of time there during broadcasting school. I had about everything else on the menu, but I didn’t know that the burger was a must have.
The best burger I ever had was at Cheeseburger in Paradise on Maui, but then being on the beach in Maui may have made it an unfair competition.

i personally like to grill burgers rather than order them from restaurants.
i’ve added all sorts of chutneys and sauces. indian spices go well with ground beef. chopping up peppers and onions and mixing them into the meat is awesome, too. soy sauce, worchestershire sauce, and spiced vinegar are all great additions. i once made a burger with pineapple, onion, and soy sauce. good stuff.
the best though, is skyline mixed into the burger meat and topped with a thick slice of fresh cheddar cheese.
you just can’t get the best burger without doing something to the meat itself, rather than just adding toppings.

Some others not mentioned.
Here is a couple places you might want to try, better than Zipps, IMO. Truthfully, my favorite places to get a burger are restaurants that will still make a Medium Rare burger without giving you shit (or it coming out medium or worse.) The other thing I like is a good bun. That is what made Fuddruckers one of my favorites, they had great buns.
The Sky Galley (Lunken Airport terminal) – Cook it the way you like it and you get to watch the planes come in and out of Lunken.
Slatts (in Blue Ash) – Also does a good Med Rare burger with a decent bun. Handful of ways to fix it.
But the best burger I have had in a LONG time (not my own) was Ted’s Montana Grill in Lexington and Columbus. They server bison (and beef) and it is delicious. We so need one in Cincinnati.
Yes, I make better burgers than most places on my grill (as long as you like it warm and bloody).

I would love to see the movement grow for a return to buffalo over beef
Buffalo meat contains more protein and significantly less fat than beef, tastes just as good, and since they are native to America, are much less stressful on the environment to raise. Plus it’s cooler I think to eat a buffalo rather than a cow.

I can’t wrap my head around how people think it qualifies as “weird”. But maybe I’m simple.

the 915 pub and grill in Ft. Thomas has the best burger in the Cincinnati area
It is a bar tucked away in Ft. Thomas. Burger is good, it comes with a mountain of fries or onion rings. You can tell the pati was freshly crafted.
The best burger I have ever had is Ted Peters in the Tampa area. It is a small burger is salmon stand near the beach. The burgers are huge, the cheese is amazing, the burgers have a perfect flavor, and they have draft root beer in frosted mugs. Perfect after a day at the beach.
I also grill a damn good burger.
