SIS - Saving Tickets from Reds Games
Earlier this month I was "spring cleaning" the house, albeit two seasons late. Hey, better late than never!!! I came across a couple envelopes with Reds tickets that Ive kept over the past three decades. I am missing a ton of ducats, obviously, but i decided to do a little research and see what the teams record was during those games, if anything of importance happened, etc. Sadly I am missing the game ticket from Shea Stadium when Pete Rose either tied or broke the NL consecutive games hit record back in 78. I was there, baby!
Reds Record: 15 W 14 L
They've won the last 7 games I've kept tickets from, after starting with a miserable 2-9 record. Amazingly 4 of those first nine losses were absorbed by one Frank Pastore. I guess ol' Frank just didnt perform when lil obc was in attendance.
Ive seen Dusty Baker homer once. The exact same number Ive seen Junya homer (irregardless of whether i kept the ticket or not).

the two ticket stubbs of memory
Homer Bailey’s debut, and Jay Bruces debute. I have a hole bunch of other stubbs, but the games aren’t as memorable.

I went to Homer's debut on purpose
Bruce’s debut was an accident. I was looking over ebay for cheap tickets in May (the time between when I come home and start to work), and I got 2 Pirates/Reds tickets in the first row left center for like $20 or something ridiculous like that.

you were at the July 3rd, '04 game?
i was at the July 4th game! we were almost at the same game! they gave out free pint glasses from Great American Insurance Group commemorating bald eagles and bald Americans. i was drinking ice tea from that glass earlier this very evening.
i dont remember that game too well, but i do remember getting excited when David Riske came in to pitch for the Indians. i knew he would cough up the lead and i remember telling my brother as such. apparently Timmy Hummel won the game with a walk-off single.
Tim Hummel will always be remembered for his utility and his pumpkin pie haircut.
i also remember the fireworks.

It ios reassuring to know
That another RR beside myself has actually seen Frank Pastore pitch in person…Frank is a big Jesus Guy now…….and all those other great names: Bill Bonham (his brother played in Led Zepplin) – Boom-Boom Hume, Wyoming’s own Jeff Russel and host of other marginal players. Really who can forget Brandon Claussen.
obc – we’ll get some folks and go down to GABP in 2009 and break this 51% winning streak you got going….I’ll set it up right after the ST whiffle ball tourney.
AND DON"T FORGET, no post would be complete without a pic of our next Secretary of State:

Pastore, Tibbs and Bonham.
All three were pitchers I liked as a younger turtle. Pastore was going to be the next Seaver. So much for that. I really thought Tibbs had a chance to be a solid starter. Wrong again. Bonham actually was OK, although as a Cub in a 1975 game against the Phillies he faced seven batters, gave up seven hits and seven runs.

nice ot know i'm not the only one misjudging pitchers
i thought for sure Belise was going to be a strong #2 level pitcher, Luke Hudson would be great, Chris Reistsma was going to be high level starting pitcher, I had the biggest hard on for Jose Acevado, John Reidling was diffidently a closer in waiting, Josh Hall would we a solid middle of the rotation guy, Jared Fernandez would have the best knuckle ball ever, Luis Pinedia seemed like a great prospect, and I even had hopes for Jeff fucking Austin.
I’m not so bright.

Agreed on Acevedo
I missed the boat on him totally. I definitely saw him as almost a sure #2 or #3 guy. I thought Johnny Ruffin was the bomb. And I was convinced Mo Sanford was pretty much what Mike Mussina turned out being.

I think Acevedo was a head case
he threw in the low 90’s, and had a nice slider, but he couldn’t put it together.

Acevedo, Hudson
and Josh Hall! I thought he was going to be the Next Big Thing for sure. Man, and I completely forgot about Reidling…

Remember the first month or two of 2004
when Reidling had an ERA under 1, and everybody wanted him to be the closer over Graves.

posted on my wall above my computer
i can see 2 tix to Reds v Dodgers in Chavez Ravine—July 28, 2005. Claussen threw 7 innings of 4-hit ball, LaRue hit 2 hr’s, and I got to see Bowden’s wet dream outfield together—Dunn, Griffey, and Wily Mo. man, the Dodgers ran out a horrible, horrible lineup that day. other than Hee Seop Choi’s PH single, the only guy of any value in blue who appeared was Milton Bradley.
Wha' happened??

I used to keep ticket stubs from all the games I went too....
games in Detroit where I rooted against the Tigers, in Toronto, games from both parks in Chicago, old Busch…… Had them with the box scores and newspaper clippings of the game. Then, during a move it disappeared. Wish I still had the memory book for there was a lot of history for me there.
You’ve got a great collection there, keep it safe!

i may have the stub
to every game i’ve ever been to. my mother gave me a stub from my first game when i was a year old – reds in san diego in ‘78. as a kid, i always kept the stubs. i know for a fact i have every stub since i’ve graduated from college.
someday i’ll do something cool with them.

I keep the stubs
From Opening day for my son, we’re up to seven now. I’ll probably have the first eight framed for him with a nice picture after this spring.

why not just kick him in the face
instead of forcing him to be a Reds fan? It’d be the humane thing to do.
Why have I been blogging for so long? It's certainly not because of the paycheck. Because I could be making a lot more money as a doctor or a professional athlete.

I feel like that would be difficult with cardboard-y stuff.
