Yankees Trade for Swisher

Per Jerry Crasnick at ESPN, the Yankees have acquired Nick Swisher from the Sox for minor league pitcher Jeff Marquez.

Marquez is a 24-year-old righty who spent most of last year at AAA Scranton Wilkes-Barre. He went 6-7 with a 4.69 ERA in 14 starts. 33/24 K/BB in 80 innings. Don't know what his pedigree is, but he was the 41st pick in the 2004 draft.

Looks like Wiliams and Sox did undervalue (at least relative to the opinion of many here at RR) Swisher.

I guess we can put that rumor to bed.

for what it's worth

betemit is also going to chicago. looking at the deal, i’m sure we could have matched it, not that i know what the pieces would have been.

im pretty upset about this one

we need a big RH bat for LF and this guy was perfect and cheap (and a switch-hitter to boot) and we didnt get him. Swisher would have been waaay better than Atkins or Dye or Cody Ross or Magglio Ordonez or any of the other jerks floated around this month. fuck the stupid Yankees (sorry BubbaFan) and stupid Kenny Williams.

Well

I guess the Yanks have their new first baseman.

And good riddance to Betemit.

Crap.

I was really hoping somehow we’d get him……it was the perfect buy-low scenario for one of my favorite players who isn’t a Red. Instead we’re probably going to end up giving the same thing up (or more) for Willy Taveras or some crap. Crap.

Taveras is happening

It just makes too much fucking sense for a management that prizes speed on the bases over actually being on the bases.

I hate that you're probably right

They’ll dick around until it’s too late and settle for Taveras.
