Monday Playoff Thread; Carry on my AL sons

Do you guys and gals still care about these open threads? Could my time be spent doing something more worthwhile? Would you rather I created a fictional world where the Reds were on their way to a World Championship and justin could spell?
My way out on a ledge prediction is that there won't be any Major League baseball played tomorrow. I'd even be willing to put tens of dollars on that prediction.
If you are looking for something to talk about with the Reds, Shawn has put together a list of who from the Reds he thinks will be eligible for the Rule 5 draft this season. There are no guarantees on the accuracy of the list, but there are some names that may require a second look.

thanks for the shout out
i spend my time creating a fictional universe where the reds win the world series, but that is more fun than my papers, tests, and grad school aps.

I didn't throw a shutout.
Ohhh, wait, you actually spelled that right. I knew the justin0070000 spelling corrector plugin for Firefox was going to confuse me eventually.

If he wants to keep playing, there are teams that could use him.
I suspect he wants to keep playing, but what do I know?
This place is like a sexy preschool.

If he wants to keep playing
he needs to catch up to that 95 MPH fast ball on the outside of the plate. He didn’t in that at bat. Three straight pitches to the exact same spot. I hope he doesn’t go out like that, but it might be an indicator that he should.

Alas, poor Cubbies
Cubs fans mourn, lash out after loss
By Sunday afternoon, some fans set up a makeshift memorial in front of the stadium gates at the corner of Waveland and Sheffield Avenues. While much was mournful, the shrine lashed out at the team, too—notes of frustration thanked the Cubs “for nothing,” and someone placed a copy of “Who’s Who in Baseball” there, with “Not the Cubs!” scrawled on it.
Just after 4 p.m. two Cubs maintenance employees puttered over in a golf cart to remove the items.
“This is going in the trash,” one worker declared.
Not so fast, said the patrons of Murphy’s Bleachers, the Cubs bar across the street. They grabbed what they could and reassembled it on the other side of Sheffield. There, they added “RIP 08” letters and wrote “OR NOT” on paper that declared: “2008 Believe.”
Back at the stadium gates, the two maintenance men finished picking apart the rest of the shrine after a few minutes, then drove a mini-sweeper over the area, erasing all evidence anything was there.
“That’s cool,” one fan noted. “At least the Cubs finally swept something.”

Take a drink every time Chip Caray says "The Angles want to force the issue on offense"
By the fourth inning you’ll be passed out
It is almost as bad as last year when doing Rockies games saying “These aren’t your Blake Street Bombers”

At least he was healthy
But he didn’t hit for power much in the post-season, compared to the regular season.
Unlike that clutch slugger, Dewayne Wise.

Saw this in the Rays-CWS recap on ESPN.com
B.J. Upton went deep twice, becoming the first player with a last name starting with the letter U to post a multihomer game in postseason play. The letters F, I, Q, X and Z have never had one.
Thank god they told me that, I would have been up all night wondering.

Shouldn't Carlton Fisk's homer count as two?
I mean, it won the World Series for Boston in 1975.

the problem with these kinds of anecdotes is the expansion of the post season
Jimmie Foxx played in 3 straight World Series but only had a combined 18 career post season games. If both the ALCS and World Series go to 7 games, BJ Upton could reach 18 career post season games by November. If Jimmie Foxx were playing today, he’d have 17 multi-home run games in the playoffs. I just know it.

More chances now, to be sure. I was just saying that Jimmie Foxx was a bad ass. :)

I really wish
announcers would replace “playoffs” with divisional playoffs, league playoffs and World Series in their yammering. Of course then they could say OMG Derek Jeter is teh awesome!!1

Joe Torre Hunter just tied up the game for the Angels in the 8th.
The look of the crowd at Fenway is priceless. This is turning into an interesting game.

Mike Scioscia is the worst
and you know if given the same situation, playoffs and all, Dusty would have done the same thing.

It's the Dodger Way
/obligatory
I actually don’t think it wasn’t a bad move. They needed one run to extend their season and their no. 9 hitter (who’s supposed to be a good bunter) was up with a fastball count. Why Aybar pulled back I don’t know.
Ripken made an interesting point about whether Willits was safe. He said that if the ball rolls out of the catcher’s glove after he tumbles to the ground in a play at the plate, the runner is safe. Similar thing happened here.

i dont think it is prima facie a bad call
what i hate is that it is not even a call to make. this is instinct. the guys in the booth knew it, the people at the stadium knew it, and you know damn sure that Terry Francona knew it. it is a play that relies very much on surprising the defense and catching them when they are least able to defend it, but nobody is ever surprised to see it (we can forget about the Reds and the origins of the Bill Hall All Stars for a minute).
the problem with the squeeze is you only get one shot, and the Angels blew it. that single play had more to do with the difference between winning and losing than any other play of that game. why not let Aybar swing three times and try to sac fly? if you dont like Aybar’s power and ability to hit a fly ball deep enough, bring in someone you are more confident in, like Quinlan. times like these, i dont want to see my manager making risky calls and taking chances. i want him to make the decision that is most likely the end up winning the game.

I think it was a real bad call...
you had a guy on second w/ nobody out.. you bunt him over to third…
now he scores on almost any ground ball. Instead they fuck it up.
there’s a reason they call it a suicide squeeze. pass the hari kari knife to Mr. Scioscia.
I didn’t even watch the bottom of the ninth, as I knew after that play the angels were done.
