I thought we'd celebrate All Hallows Eve with the scariest Red Reporter posts of the past 12 months. Please feel free to add your own.
- There was this ghoulish FanPost back in March that led to months of fun in center field. Corey Patterson might not have been much of a power hitter. He might not have been much of a contact hitter. He might not have been much of a baserunner. He might not have been much in the field. But.
- It's been a while, but there was a time when we thought Jeff Keppinger's knee injury might have been a serious blow to the Reds' playoff chances. Still, that was definitely a nasty little injury, if for no other reason than I've always seen kneecaps as particularly vulnerable body parts and consider their injuries quite icky.
- This post was so scary it might make you cry.
- In the scariest moment I've ever read about on a baseball diamond, one of our minor league squads got into a squabble with some idiot Cubs farmhands, one of whom pelted an innocent fan with a fastball. Thankfully, that dolt is being brought to justice.
- Sometimes the writing by local writers is downright scary. ...
- ... and sometimes boyish good looks just make people frightened. Plus, "His commercials make me sick to my sotmach."
- Finally, despite what the ads say, change isn't always embraced by the masses. SBN scared the shit outta y'all.
What posts/threads remind you guys of the Halloween spirit?

In re-reading the Patterson thread
I started reading a post and thought, “who is this goober and wow is he way off base.” As I continued reading, I realized it was my own post.
A might humbling, ain’t it.

I do that at work on occasion

SI.com thinks the Reds will sign Kotsay

i just read that
and was about to offer my opinion.
im really worried that the Reds see Dickerson as the LF. there has been too much chatter about needing a CF lately. maybe im blowing a few off-hand comments by people not in the know out of proportion, but this is becoming a concern of mine.
im not so sure that Dickerson really is the answer in CF, but his defense is spectacular in CF and his bat will never (well, maybe i shouldnt say NEVER, but you know) play in LF. but the thought that the Reds need a CF with Dickerson here and Stubbs at AAA is far too absurd to mention. which makes me believe that perhaps the FO is entertaining such a thought.

Slow down, fella. I'm not that easy.
But, yeah, I hate when it opens up and takes me away from this page. I know, I know, “middle click”, but I forget, okay?

Reasoning:
[Kotsay] Represents a reasonable value as a fourth outfielder, and perhaps increased his potential usefulness by playing a solid first base for the Sox after Mike Lowell went down and Kevin Youkilis was shifted to third. Could see lots of at-bats in Cincinnati.
So Kotsay should come to Cincy because they give 4th outfielder types “lots of at bats.”
Hell of a reputation the Reds have built for themselves.

maybe they should stop looking for a shortstop
and literally use a fourth outfielder

not scary
but I would like to see the Reds and Juan Cruz to the bullpen. Imagine a bullpen of Bray-Cruz-Burton-Coco. Games would pretty much be locked down after six innings.

i dont know
im usually categorically against signing free agent relievers. too much of this, this, and remember crap like this? have left me a little skeptical. in fairness, Cruz looks nothing like these guys, but my wife tells me i should be more spiritual. so i choose to believe in the peril of signing free agent relievers.

I like looking at the BBRef URL and trying to figure out who the player is
Which reminds me, its pretty unfortunate (but sadly necessary) that they needed to change This Guy’s URL.

Rereading the Patterson thread
I stand by everything I said – he was a good stop-gap until Bruce was ready, and was absolutely needed between the injuries to Fropper and trades of Dunn and Jr.
It’s not my fault that Dusty misused him in the leadoff, or that CoPat completely forgot how to take a walk. Or steal a base. Or hit a baseball.
Often wrong, never uncertain.

"Stubs or Studs?"
Before we get started, a special thanks to Rick House for contributing the “Stubs” portion of this piece. I’ve been playing fantasy death pool with House for a year and a half now and he’s top notch when it comes to smelling death. We don’t always agree, but he knows his stuff!
A controversial prospect in everyone’s eyes, Stubs was viewed as a big risk, big reward prospect coming out of last December. He certainly has not disappointed by flashing gold glove caliber deafness and good speed with decent power when taking dangerous falls. While I’m certainly not sold on his future, I drew the short straw and have the task of defending his prospect status while finding enough silver linings to project a long and comfortable career inside a major league coffin.
Studs?
In thinking comps, Paul Harvey came to mind as a guy who Studs could wind up mirroring. While Harvey is not “dead” he has had a few recent years worthy of consideration. Should Studs wind up with 250+ bed sores, 300+ liver spots, and 1,000+ medical referrals, it’s safe to say Death Pool brass would be ecstatic to say the least. Based on numbers alone, Studs is currently behind Harvey’s pace, but Stubs advancing three code levels in a month may be a sign of a potential breakdown in 2009.
