From Gammons Blog
This was brought to my attention over on VEB by one of the members there. On Gammons blog he brings up the idea of having the Series at neutral sites, instead of in one of the participating teams home town.
What are your thoughts on this?
Here is the link
Personally, I think this is one of the worst ideas I have ever heard. I hope he is joking. However, knowing Selig, he may give it a try.
So, are you for it, or against it?
Gammons also brings up the idea of shortening the season, perhaps to 148 games if the neutral site is not picked. I'm against this also. Perhaps back to the 154 game schedule, but 148 seems a bit extreme. But, those are just my thoughts. What are yours?
God Bless You All!

Absolutely not, home field advantage is important
And if baseball would just play 10 doubleheaders a year they could shave a week off each end of the season.

i hate this idea
1 game event like the superbowl? sure. fly the bigwigs and fat cats out and have a great time. multi-game series? forget it. fans who show up 81+ times a year deserve the (slim) chance to see their boys win the trophy on their home field.

No, but you know what is a good idea?
3 inning baseball games!! How cool was that last night? I loved it. Every at bat counted. It was intense from the beginning. Even in the WS, innings 1-6 can be dull. Last night, it wasn’t dull for one second. Every wasted at-bat by the Rays was HUGE. Every baserunner by either team was all the more magnified. I loved it!
I propose that next season, all games should last 4 innings and they should play a double-header every night. (And I’m not 100% joking here…)
The season doesn't start until the Cincinnati Reds take the field! Reclaim The Opener!!

Horrendous.
All probably would be played in New York. You know, for the good of the game.

could have shaved a week off naturally
If each series had started two days after the end of the preceding series, and non-travel off-days were eliminated during a series, the arctic rain never would have been an issue. What was Fox worried about…Hole in the Wall isn’t even airing these days.

It's such a bad idea that Selig will force it.
And then he’ll declare it a success.

I kind of like a neutral site
Shorten the season a bit and make the first round 7 games.
It almost snowed in Philly. What will happen if the Twins make the playoffs with their new stadium?

I am against it
I agree with JCH lets have 10 double headers. I enjoy the roar of the crowd when I watch a world series game, that wouldn’t be there so much at a nutral site. Most of the fans would probably be local’s, or people who have enough money to not only by world series tickets, but travel to the site. I am guessing attendance would drop for that game, because this isn’t a one game affair like the superbowl. I am guessing not many people would show up for a game’s 1-3 when they don’t have much of a vested interest in the teams playing.

Roar of the crowd
Have you noticed in that last couple of years that there really isn’t a roar on tv anymore? Fox has hollowed out the sound from the crowd so the announcers don’t have to scream. There is a constant hum that I can’t quite describe, but it sounds hollow like the crowd is on the other end of a mile-long cardboard tube. My wife and I both noticed it more this year more with TBS.
I miss the old days where you heard real crowd noise and the announcers were a part of it. It had big-game feel, and it was like you were right there.

I'm behind shortening the season to 148 games
Then 'twas the Roman, now 'tis I.

I agree with MM - 148 game season makes sense
now that MLB has this ponderous play off system.
Hopefully someone will shorten Peter Gammons career to end within the next 90 days as well.

When one gets an actual close up of an aneurysm
then the capacity for understanding Peter Gammon’s incoherency as inherently more than just babble becomes an option. I now understand why he didn’t make it as a contestant on “Are Smarter Than Britney Spears”?
This kind of condition is usually genetic, although sometimes its been known to occur to rock ‘n roll rhythm guitarists who’ve backed up Bronson on tour.
