World Series: Game 5 Thread
I'm gonna make this short and sweet. Phillies have the chance to win it all tonight in front of the home fans, the Rays need a win to send it back to Tampa. Pitching matchups are a rematch of game 1, with Scott Kazmir taking on Cole Hamels. Savor it, it may be the last baseball game of 2008.

Yeah, yeah.
Although yours makes me think it’s about Yvonne Strahovski, whose show I’m watching instead of the brutal World Series pregame.

Hey!
I proposed that trade, and it better damn well not get vetoed. Manning is blocking Schaub, and I need a TE making more than .4 points a game. So what if it took my top two draft picks :)

I didn't even look to see who the teams were, honest
I voted against it when I saw the players swapped. Manning will outscore Jones and Winslow on a weekly basis by himself. If it were Peterson or even Johnson instead of Jones I probably wouldn’t have voted that way.

I met three people from Philly. None of them seemed terribly excited about the Phillies winning. Although I guess if they cared, they would have been watching the Series, and not been at a happy hour for emerging museum professionals.

They do yes
And it will be as wild as an event consisting mostly of 70 year olds can be. That being said, I probably won’t be there as my main office is not very centrally located and I have to be 74 places at once on Election Day. However, after 11 straight months, I probably can’t handle a party. It’ll be uncontrollable emotion one way or the other.
And Slyde, those Brownies are just plain disturbing.

"You never want to give up a 7-0 lead, in your rival's ballpark, that would put them in first place. Never want to do that." - Ron Darling
I'm starting to think that Pitch Trax thing is hurting the umpires
While the pitches may be borderline, having the commentators question every pitch really hurts the game itself. Plus, we used to never have the pitch trax replay on every single pitch. Just let the umpires call the game and let it go.
www.crosleyfieldterrace.wordpress.com
its been three games in a row with bullshit umpiring
They referred to obvious bad calls earlier as “borderline” or some such understatement. The first inning was a gift. You think they should ignore the fact that the umpire is calling strikes as balls for Kazmir?
I'm just saying the overuse of Pitch Trax has hurt the umpires
right or wrong, balls or strikes.

No wonder the ratings are down
After all the tedious playoff games, the world Series is again being played football weather.
40 degrees, torrential rains, gusting winds and pooling water. The ball is wet and the hands are cold…this is a shame. Either shorten the season or go back to some double headers cause these late Oct early Nov games are going to kill the World Series.
Lots of fun for a dad and son

This is brutal.
Has the deciding game of a World Series ever been cut short due to weather?

They would call it and finish it later, right?
That would be pretty crazy, though.

if Upton hadn't have scored
a real Commish would have suspended the game anyway, for resumption at the earliest possible date, by invoking the “Best Interests of Baseball” clause to overrule the rules.
If ever there was a Best Interests, it would have to be in preventing the WS from ending on a rain delay.

But first, Bob Dupuy and his bullshit responses
they were grateful that the game got tied up so they could pull the tarp out. How awkward would it have been to end the series on a rainout?

From Jayson Stark on the ESPN.com Blog
And now for yet another complication: The Rays checked out of their hotel in center-city Philadelphia, in anticipation of flying home after the game — and they can’t get back in, because the hotel is sold out.
They’re scrambling to find rooms — somewhere — as we speak.

Start and end the season a week early. It would get rid of a lot of weather-related problems.

when games are rained out, i’d rather play a double header, rather than lose an off day. I realize working at a grocery store is nothing like playing baseball, but I’d much rather put in 32 hours over 4 days, rather than 5.
