Bedard to Mariners

According to the Mariner's Blog at the Seattle Times, Erik Bedard is heading to the Mariners in exchange for Adam "Pacman" Jones and other players not yet named.

The deal hasn't been officially announced, so it's hard to react to it, but when has that ever stopped us?

glad he is staying in the American League
and differently glad he didn't go to Chicago (I heard the Cub's tossed around a bit).  I am also glad Cincinnati didn't give up a prospects as big as Madvilles prostate to get him.

Trading Jones for Bedard
Is roughly equivalent to trading Jay Bruce for Bedard.

Glad we didn't do it.

At least it wasn't Grady Little.

It's closer to Votto than Bruce, imo.
I'm glad we didn't do it either way, but Jones definitely isn't on the same level as Bruce.

You're right.
Jones = Votto or thereabouts.

According to the Mariners bloggers, the "throw-ins" were two other B+ or B grade prospects.

They are basically gutting their upper-tier farm system for Bedard.

At least it wasn't Grady Little.

Rumor
Wasn't there a statement from "someone close to the negotiations" that if the O's didn't get Bruce, they'd take so many prospects it would "basically guy the Reds' system"?

If so, it probably would have taken Votto/Bailey or Cueto/EdE or Frazier; that wouldn't have made much sense, unless they knew they could sign him long term for a reasonable contract, which seems unlikely (especially with Hamilton's bat now gone).  That makes it look, as others have said, as a deal Krivsky was better off not making.

just....wow.

MLB Trade Rumors...
...said this morning that Bedard was likely headed to Seattle.

They predicted Adam Jones, George Sherrill, Chris Tillman plus another player would be wearing Orioles jerseys next month.

ugh
its about time.  this crap has gone on waaaaay too long.  im certainly glad that wayner is smarter than bavasi.  getting outdid by andy mcphail is pretty embarassing.  i guess we dont know who all is in the package that the O's will get yet, but i think i can safely say its too much.  kudos wayner.  you aint as dumb as you looks.

Take a look...
At the posts on Lookout Landing (the Mariners' blog).

People hate the trade already and are really wondering what else Bavasi gave up for Bedard.

Kudos Waynerhead for not giving away the farm (literally).

At least it wasn't Grady Little.

Seattle has a big hole in RF
Maybe they'll want someone like Freel to fill it.

Your namesake Griffey Jr.?
btw, I just agreed with you from eight months ago for the second time in another thread. this makes sense if you know what it means.

I'm just flattered
you confused me with Slyde.

Freel makes sense to me because they have a lot of ground to cover in that OF.  Plus he'd be almost free - Kriv probably wants a do-over on Freel's extension.  But a Clement for Jr. would be fun, just to see USS Mariner implode.

Good Job Wayne
Sometimes the best deals are the ones not made. As nice as it would have been to have Bedard in the rotation I'm glad they didn't give away the farm to get him.
