All Things Bubba: Because how can you not love a baseball player named Bubba?

All Things Bubba: Because how can you not love a baseball player named Bubba?

by BubbaFan on Sep 7, 2007 6:26 PM EDT up reply actions

My guess...
Your Reds-Brewers score is more likely to be correct than your election call.  Guiliani has too much baggage.  New Yorkers put up with his shenanigans, but the rest of the country will not.  Once the full glare of the press is focused on him, he will shrivel like an ant under a magnifying glass.
All Things Bubba: Because how can you not love a baseball player named Bubba?

by BubbaFan on Sep 7, 2007 6:46 PM EDT up reply actions

I hear ya.
And I don't want RR to go gettin' all political and stuff but let me just tell ya why I think Guiliani will at least win the nomination. As the Wu-Tang said: Cash Rules Everything Around Me.

by Fat Vegas Alan on Sep 7, 2007 6:55 PM EDT up reply actions

Not that political
Guiliani's politics are more or less okay by me, and, I suspect, more in tune with the average American than the other candidates.

But I don't think money will be enough to get him through the gauntlet of the primaries.  "The Base" is not going to vote for a guy who is pro gay rights, pro-choice, flaunted his mistress in front of his young children, and has a last name that ends with a vowel.

LOL!
Nice gams.

Speaking of baseball and politics...  George Shultz is apparently a small-ball believer.  He was speaking at an energy conference, trying to say that we need to do lots of little things to solve the energy crisis.

For example, he said, if Boeing can build airplanes out of super-light but strong materials, why can't American automakers do the same? Shultz roared on:
"How do you win a baseball game? You win it with singles and stolen bases," rather than home runs.

That prompted a response by Stanford's Paul Ehrlich, he of "The Population Bomb" fame:

"It seems to me the beginning of the game was about 1950."

Hmmm.  I guess there are situations where longball is better...

Unless
you're facing really good pitching.  Then having a lineup full of home run hitters can bite you in the ass.

Balance and versatility, that's what I like to see in a team.
