Erardi Article

I haven't seen this posted - forgive me if I'm being redundant, but I thought this article was interesting, especially the comments from Jeff and Marty.

Except I don't really understand what they're saying about fans not really warming to Adam Dunn being a red. I mean, clearly there are vocal anti-Dunn factions, and many have their complaints, but most fans I've met really like him.

USA Today Crossword puzzle?
Really? I wasn't expecting the Sunday NYT, but you'd think he'd at least challenge himself with the poser in Entertainment Weekly.

I love those xword puzzles
that have two letter spots.

Like "Clue is "M.D."...two letters...starts with d...DM?"

Pretty good article
It seems like the worm is starting to turn, re. Dunn.

Also, is "Inaz" really J's last name?  I thought he was just in Arizona.

It was a decent article
but seriously David Weathers team MVP!?!? How about that Harang guy? He was the best pitcher and player on this lousy team.

BP was metioned a few times as the 'teams best player' I know that pisses Paul and Slyde off but while I'm not sure he is the best player he is the most solid of all the postion players...needs to walk and come up with some bigger hits more often though

but seriously Weathers team MVP!!!???

I want to clarify before it gets out of hand
I don't mind it being a running joke that I don't like BP, but I don't want people to think that when I say something about BP that whatever I say is being clouded by my hate for him (which doesn't really exist).  I think Phillips is overrated offensively, but I also think he is the most complete player on the Reds.  I would have no problem with calling him the MVP of this season's team because when it comes to position players it is either him or Dunn, and I think you can easily make the argument that BP wins out this year.

So while I don't mind people making jokes about me hating Phillips, I try really hard to be objective when evaluating players and I don't want someone to think that just because I think that getting 30/30 isn't that big of a deal, it doesn't mean that I think that BP is worthless.

I'm not superstitious...but I am a little stitious.

Yeah I get ya
I just know MM, Paul and you don't think BP is the best thing ever like some of the writers do and think Adam Dunn should be the NL MVP :}

I really like BP
I wish he got on base more and didn't GIDP so much, that's all. He's awesome in the field, awesome. I would have no problem with him winning the MVP.

I would!
Harang is the best player on this team, and as you said BP ground in to way too many Double Plays and isn't that great with RISP to be hailed as the reds best player

harang would be fine too
I don't really put too much stock in RISP stats, though his OPS does take a significant dive. Eh.

MVP
Well, since my name is being mentioned, I figure I ought to weigh in.

I would say that with respect to position players and their contribution to the team (taking into account defense) this year, Dunn > Phillips > Griffey > Hamilton.

Including pitchers, it probably looks like this:
Harang > Dunn > Phillips > Griffey > Weathers > Hamilton.

Do I think Phillips is a bad player?  No.

Do I think Phillips a more valuable player than Dunn?  Also no.

Do I think Harang is more valuable than Dunn or Phillips?  Yes.

Do I agree with Zach with respect to Reds' MVP?  As much as it pains me, yes.

If Krivsky doesn't exercise Adam Dunn's 2008 option, I'm a Mets fan until they fire him.

I like this Erardi guy
He was the guy who interviewed Slyde and JinAZ for the sabermetrics article, right (and, yeah, I'm pretty sure that the inAZ means "in Arizona," not his last name)?  I thought that article was very well done, and here, he does a nice job of painting both sides of the Dunn argument without letting any personal bias he has get in the way.  I was fairly surprised to read Marty's sort-of-acknowledgement of Dunn's value to the club, and downright shocked to hear Brantley's 180.  Glad to see that he's willing to learn, unlike some former players.

We need to get this guy a blog/regular column in the Enquirer.

Justin
I was under the impression Inaz was his last name. His site says his name is Justin Inaz (lower case a). That's how his name is dropped by Erardi as well as how he's credited on THT. I thought it was just really cool that he always was in AZ. Justin, care to shine any light on this?

I'll link to his site so he'll find this.

I thought it was a pen name
Given that an academic may want to limit his google footprint on nonprofessional matters.  But I also thought his name was "Jin" for about a year, so I have no idea what I'm talking about.

I think ken's got it
Methinks Justin is an Academic that lives a solitary life and is in hiding, much like another great Academic.

I always thought it was in AZ, too
but he uses it for Baseball Prospectus and HBT stuff, and those guys always use their real names.

for the marty bashers out there
who never hear the positive things he says:  on yesterdays (apologies, something is up with the apostrophe on this keyboard - it takes me to quick find) post-game report, marty and thom were talking about something being wrong with this organization if they dont sign dunn to a long-term contract.

by Daedalus on Oct 1, 2007 10:13 AM EDT reply actions

I heard that
It was a complete 180 from his on air conversation with Hal McCoy near the deadline when he kept saying: "They've gotta trade him...He's not going to be with this team next year...They've gotta trade him."
