Around SBN: Interview With UMD Athletic Director, Dr. Debbie Yow

Game 2

Bronson Brandon Arroyo has looked good lately and so has Paul Maholm though.  Put this squad in Pete.

Adam Dunn will redeem his late inning strikeout and act like Malholm is Bob Wickman. Nice to see Gonzalez back even if he struck out.  My best friend is a
Pirates' fan and I could not stand to see a doubleheader victory for the Pirates.

you win... but
if positivity is the theme of the day, Arroyo's a hell of a lot better than Elizardo.  The Reds still pick up half a game if they win and the Cubs lose.  And (god willing, Ellison won't be playing).  Plus, the Pirates really do suck.  Lineups were discussed en masse earlier, I'm too lazy to type 'em out

I'm really surprised it's Hopper in CF again
CF is usually a position they swap out in doubleheaders, because there's so much ground to cover.  I expected them to put Hopper in LF and use Hamilton in CF, if only so they don't run him ragged.

If JD nominates a commenter of the year this year
it should be you.  You speak your mind and don't give a shit what everyone thinks.  I don't always agree with you, but you surely don't let the man put you down.  That and el Slydro hasn't shown up lately.

by buckeye22fox on Aug 28, 2007 9:26 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

between speaking your mind and doing so in a manner that is still respectful of others.

oh, we must bow to the omniscient geki
who, if he choked alone in his mother's basement, would not be missed, and his death would not be noticed until the stench of his rotting flesh alerted the neighbors.

it's called being a part of society.  there's a difference between the type of ghetto respect you are referring to and a general consideration of others which keeps society running.  it's called civility.  it's what civilized people do.

you are chasing people away:

I went away from this site for a couple of weeks because I had gotten to the point that Geki and Man Mountain had ruined the site for me.

I thought I was over it, but I came back today and read the game thread, and even though the Reds are playing well right now, they do nothing but praise Dunn and bash Marty.  Dunn has played well, and instead of just celebrating his acomplishments, they take every opportunity to bash Marty or other Reds fans.  I like Adam Dunn, and I hope he stays with the Reds for a long time.  It's those two that make me have bad thoughts towards him.  It's unfair that they have ruined one of my favorite players for me.

What's more unfair is that they have ruined my favorite site for me.

Enjoy the rest of the season guys.

it sums it up quite well.

I find myself to be generally civil.
Just because I'm not nice to you or Than, who don't exactly act kindly towards me, doesn't mean I'm cruel to everyone. I doubt you'll get much complaint about how I act towards Red Menace, Man Mountain, Slyde, Madville, JD, or anyone else who I respect. You've constantly bitched about me being too negative, while Than has supposedly left because I praise Adam Dunn too heavily. That's not a problem with me, that's a problem with him. As I said before, he could stand to stop being a hypocrite and perhaps develop an epidermis.

I almost never resort to name calling before someone else (namely, you) does. You seem to be under the misguided opinion that being civil is either a) agreeing with everyone or b) acquiescing to Daedalus' requests. I know more about baseball than most people, and really have no problem with sharing that knowledge in whatever way I want. Get over yourself. Oh, and stop using drunkenness as an excuse for being a bitch.

Nice move, Mackanakaka
Way to use a reliever you just used in the first game to replace a starting pitcher who has thrown only 80 pitches.
If Krivsky doesn't exercise Adam Dunn's 2008 option, I'm a Mets fan until they fire him.

Its that outside-the-box managing
you write down a bunch of names before the game, put them in a box, and pull them out of the box when you need a PH or Relief pitcher.

here's a question, cuz i need some advice (or as the people whom i work with say, "advise") and don't really know why i keep saying cuz cuz it's hard to type and all but anyway...if you are sittin on a bar terrace with five full tables out of seven, would you be annoyed if someone were sitting there on a laptop listening to a baseball game?  i mean, i can hear others' conversations, but it's not the same thing as listening to a radio broadcast. and i forgot my headphones.

just wondering if i should turn it down.

So now we have the good glove offense in, which means EE's out.  Because they want to keep Kepp in.

Did we really put a good line-up out there for either game? Why is the man who is second in the NL sit out a game? Why did our most talented outfielder NOT EVEN PLAY?
Why did Majewski pitch in the second game of the DH?
Why?
Why?
Dropping a double header to the Pirates.  I predict the Reds win two games on this road trip.

Why does the Red's management worship at the alter of sub-mediocrity?  Why was Chad Moeller on this team this season at all? Castro? Why is Stanton still on the roster? Jason Ellison? Why?

this has a lot to do with baseball
but does anyone know what mongolian sounds like?  these asian guys are sitting near me and speaking what sounds very similar to russian, and i can't figure out where they are from (remember, i have a certificate saying i'm a linguist and am interested in this stuff, though i have doubts about it these days.)  they have very strong asian features, even more so than those from eastern russia, and they don't look like khazaks or tajiks or those central asian "republics."  i'm going to ask them when they disengage from their serious conversation (which i can tell is about business), but it is a puzzle to me when i can't figure out what language people are speaking!!

i heard there was a huge mongolian population that lives under the stadium...

i know something of the sound of northern chinese and southern russian, but i don't know what they sound like combined...i guess i had always imagined the sound of apocalyptic trumpets, or perhaps the sound of a garbage truck crushing up a chalkboard...and now i am embarrassed because i asked and they were speaking russian but they were japanese and they were speaking with such an accent that it sounded like another language.

shoot, i love languages so much that i can understand them without knowing the words.  two germans were watching the whole thing and now they are talking about the encounter and i know everything they are saying.  oh, i am going to miss this city.  some guys are walking by singing a beautiful rendition of it's a hard knock life and i'm thinking, my god, i'm moving to freaking cincinnati, where people are the "boredest" in the country?  i'm leaving this city, the political capital of the world, because i don't feel inspired?

Late at night , I return home
from working on shit at my store. I heard part of both games on the radio(please deliver me from Thom B.) and read all of the threads. Tired as I am I can only hope that this evenings results are but a small bump in the road.It is easy to lay the blame for a double loss on Pete McMalarky. And it is also pretty much a correct assessment. I cannot understand why any manager in his right fucking mind would start Ellison, keep Hobbs on the bench and not just run the lineup that has been winning consistently for the last 6 games out there for both games. Noho should have played one game, Hobbs 2, Dunn 2, Hamilton 2 and Griffy 1. Why not go for the jugular instead of hoping that some bullshit prissy LaLoseresque match-up line up would somehow squeak by. Pete just failed the audition.

this team would be 6 games out at teh end of august two months ago. This team stinks and it doesn't make a difference who manages. Why can't the blame go to sweaterpants?

Tonights games I'm just going to say to pirates played really well. Capps was very good, Sanchez hit very well and Bay and Kata had a big hit each.

I know Hamilton didn't play but that is second guessing there is no way you or pete would know that Hamilton would of had a good game or games tonight. Don't play the "manager should give you the best chance to win card" because Hopper ended up 4-4 in game 2 and had a hit in game one. His only mistake was by him and Jeff K on that pathetic hit and run attempt. How could you fault Pete for bringing in Bray and the Magic man two of the hotter pitchers for the bullpen. Is it his fault they gave it up? But if he brought Weathers or Burton in too early some might flip out that he overruses them. Would I rather of seen Hamilton? sure but there is too much that took place in both of those games to say that he would be the difference is silly.

If the Reds are tied with the Cubs/Brewers/Cardnials when there is 5 games left in the season. Zach will join the band wagon

the problem most of us have with pete
not playing hamilton is that we all knew (and hopefully pete did too) this doubleheader was pretty crucial.  coming off a 6 game win streak and an off day, you want to keep the momentum going.  drastically changing the lineup that has been so successful of late for the sake of something as pithy as lefty-righty matchups is plain ol' stupid.  sitting your best hitter for ellison is another level of stupid.  i have no problem playing hopper for one of these games.  he's shown he can hit singles.  thats not a bad thing.  but playing hopper and ellison in the same game is asking for the L.  pulling arroyo after only 80 pitches in the backend of a doubleheader in which your pen pitched 4 innings is just irresponsible.  i havent heard anything about arroyo being hurt, but thats the only reason pete could justifiably give for making that move. i think thats no less than 3 major mistakes pete made in 2 games.  this guy has no business managing this team.
at least this isnt pittsburgh

Well for those of you who still believe
It was only two game, win the next 4 and you might feel different about the Reds
