I was just looking at the Hall of Fame ballot for 2008. It is probably one of the weakest in recent memory. Of the players who will be appearing for the first time none of them are worthy for that honor. Tim Raines is probably the only one of them that will ever have a real chance to be elected.
Of the holdovers I would have to guess Goose Goosage and Andre Dawson will be going in next season. Mark McGwire is out there but the media, in their infinite wisdom, has decided that he needs to talk. Hal McCoy has repeatedly said that if he doesn't want to talk about the past he doesn't want to consider it. I think McGwire should go in.
That leaves us with Davey Concepcion who will be appearing on the ballot for the 15th and final time. I really believe that he deserves to be in. Shame on the writers if he isn't a cool enough pick, let them vote in Jim Rice if that is how they feel. Hopefully the Veteran's Committee will see the light.
