Here's an interesting interview between Deadspin's Will Leitch and Jeff Pearlman, author of the Barry Bonds biography "Love Me, Hate Me." At the time, Pearlman said that he didn't think Bonds would break Aaron's record. Well, Barry is now two away from tying the record, and what does Mr. Pearlman have to say now? Some pretty bluntly negative stuff. Jeff Pearlman is an interesting writer (he did the notorious SI piece on John Rocker, and he's also written about our own Josh Hamilton), so it took me aback slightly to read this contempt. It's interesting, but ultimately a bash piece. I'm no fan of Bonds, so I like my notions stroked, but it's kind of hard to take seriously someone that says literally no one wants Bonds to break the record, and calls him "evil."
I dunno. Read the interview, and I'll be curious to see what your reactions are. I know we have some Bonds fans on this site, and maybe they'll offer a good reason as to why it's a good thing that Barry has the record. Check it out.
