Sometimes, I just don't understand this organization. Take, for instance, the situation at 3B.
Edwin Encarnacion was the incumbant at 3B. Last year looked like somewhat of a breakout for him. Unfortunately, he struggled early this year, posting a .588 OPS thru May 9. He was then sent down "to teach him a lesson"; upon returning, he hit much better, raising his OPS to .744 by the AS break.
Since then? This will be the 3rd game he's sat out, and in one he came in in the 8th on a double-switch. The kid's 24 years old! Is this any way to instill confidence? Is this anyway to build a team?
Meanwhile, the guy who's been taking time from him (a) is 3 years older and (b) has never shown that he's that good of a hitter; everything about his past says "career back-up", and that his current hot streak is nothing more than 31 PA of a blind squirrel finding an acorn.
THIS IS NOT HOW YOU BUILD A TEAM. You let your young guys grow into their positions, especially someone who showed so much last year. You DO NOT bench them for an AAAA player who "has the hot hand".
Sitting guys like Dunn and EdE for "youngsters" like Wise, Hopper, and Keppinger will just perpetuate the current situation in Cinci.
