Junior as an ambassador

The diplomat?

[Griffey] said he recently received a letter from Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice asking if he would like to be a "public diplomat."

Star-divide

"I have to figure out which country," Griffey said. "We're going to meet when we go to Washington. We'll talk about it if our schedules line up. I'm excited about it. Hopefully, things work out."

The genesis of the idea came out of a golf outing with former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, brother of President George W. Bush.

I didn't realize Junior was interested in politics.  I figured he would stay in baseball like his dad and be a scout or coach or owner or something.  Or maybe it's just a joke?

I Recall reading
back when G.W. Bush threw out the first pitch that he and Griffey had a private conversation, while Bush just gave 'Howdy's to the rest of the guys.  Griff also gave him a signed bat with some message on it.  After reading that I thought Griff either had some intrest in politics or cared about the troops.

But add in that Griff is or was Prez of the Boys&Girls Club that could lead to his Public Diplomat status possibly being with foreign kids.

Ohh
And I could never see Junior being a scout or coach.  He seems like the guy that when he retires he is done for good.

Am I the only one that gets that impression?

no
he doesn't seem to enjoy baseball like he used to.  but, you never know.  maybe after half a decade of being out of the limelight, he'll start to miss it and manage some independent league team close to home?

Griffey
I agree.  I can see him doing it as long as it gives him the ability to keep his kids around the game, just like it always was for him growing up.
