Around SBN: Cal RB Jahvid Best Seriously Injured, Carted Off Field

Get out your brooms!

If we sweep the astros tonight we are out of the cellar wohoo!!!

A few thoughts and questions:

-After this we play the sudenly hot rockies and the lowly cards. It would not be crazy to think that the team could go 8-1 or 7-2 and make up some lost ground.

-With that said, wouldn't this be a great time to bring up bailey? Say the reds have a great road trip and with the 5th starter and i think even loshe still in question, the next homestand would be the perfect time to bring him up. Fans would love it andi'm sure the players would get excited because they have to know the numbers this guy is putting up in AAA.

-Oh yeah and another thought on Bailey, Fransico Liriano was brought up when Minesota was 12 games out and was a big part of why they came back...just throwing that out there.

-I heard the braves released 1B/OF Craig Willson. Is he still around to pick up? I think he could help the reds bench depending on how much he cost. So if you guys know anything or if you think he can help tell me.

-I will defend Juan Casto, I know he has really really sucked on the field, but he has helped EdE very much. I read an article in the enquier that says he helps EdE durring Infield everyday and gives him advice. I know i will get ripped on that but haha oh well he is my favorite player on the team.

I'll raise
your mid-late July and bet you he isn't up this year at all.

Of course
I still owe a friend lunch for betting that Obama wouldn't run for president (I thought he was just selling books)

Homer Bailey
I don't know that the players would be very excited, as Majewski has been quoted extensively that he doesn't think he's ready for the bigs.

hmm
Seems to me most people that are pro-callup fall into the John Fay/Talk Radio camps, and be quicker to rather trust a guy who makes his living pitching.

Grrr.
  • One game at a time, okay? This time has shown an incredible ability to suck against sucky teams, and it's tough to trust our 3-4-5 starters going in Coors.
  • He deserves a shot, but Liriano comparisons are unfair and borderline ridiculous...not to mention how Liriano's saga ended.
  • Wilson was signed to a minor league deal by somebody. I can't remember who off the top of my head, but I remember hearing about it. I wanna say White Sox or Tigers, probably the Sox since he wouldn't really have a spot anywhere for Detroit.
  • If that's the case, then he's simply the most overpaid coach in baseball history and he also happens to occupy a roster spot and start once every two weeks. All while being less valuable as a hitter than most pitchers. He's a nice guy and good defender, but he has no place on a major league roster.

Craig Wilson
He was signed to a minor league deal by the White Sox.  He's been playing against the Bats with the Charlotte Knights this week.  Right field.  Batting an even .100.

All Things Bubba: Because how can you not love a baseball player named "Bubba"?

Geki,
general question. Why do you make so much sense, then other times I picture you typing about something with a vein popping out of your forehead? :)  Is it drugs? It's ok, you can tell us.
Wait three days. Alan will become the resurrection.

Probably because
I'm often typing with a vein popping out of my forehead.

I want
some of what Geki's having.

I dunno
The players also saw Bailey pitch in spring training, where he became the proud owner of a 20 ERA.

I don't think he's ready.  Chad Moeller says he's not ready, and so does just about everyone else.  It's more than just pitching. He has to learn to hold runners on and field his position.

But I got my broom ready...

Grain of salt
I don't know that we can really trust what the players are saying, especially guys like Chad Moeller. He's not gonna undercut the team's entire management and say Homer should be in the majors when his roster spot on the team isn't exactly secure to begin with. Agreeing with questionable management decisions and supposedly lending credence to them is a good way to curry favor with the guys undeservedly giving you a job.

Agreed.
They probably have a form already for the paperwork they use to DFA Moeller.

I won't rip you for liking TSF Castro
But he's taking a roster spot as a right-handed hitter off the bench. His batting line is ATROCIOUS: .148/.175/.185

That's laughably bad.

His defense is overrated at this point, and he's 35. And the Reds are paying him 975,000. And 1.1 Mil next year. And his batting line is .148/.175/.185. And he's taking a roster spot as a right handed hitter of the bunch. And his defense is overrated at this point, and he's 35. And his batting line is .148/.175/.185.

If he wants to be an infielders coach--fine. But his batting line is .148/.175/.185.

He might be a nice guy. I bet he is, but his batting line is .148/.175/.185

What was that batting line again?
I don't think you said anything about him batting .148/.175/.185, did you?

Sorry Paul,
I just had this wicked idea that I could be "that guy" tonight and just repeat everything you say. Then I realized, it would be just as annoying as if someone did it in real life..... and I'm still working and can't refresh that much:)
