Saarloos dfa

Jsut noticed this on C.Trent's Site:

Saarloos dfa
'They need answers, but I don't feel like I'm the problem. I had three bad innings in 20 appearances. I don't think I'm the problem'

I know he's coming of an absolutely horrible start but a DFA seems a little hasty to me. Doesn't he have options? Looks like its going to open a well deserved door for Livingston. Maybe it will shake things up.

Update [2007-5-28 11:33:2 by satyanaas]: Rosecrans updated his blog. I thought they released Saarloos. Just sent him down to Louisville. I'm cool with that. Maybe he can work on getting a first inning out down there and comeback and help us in the bullpen when we release Stanton.

Hes not been DFA'd
I Optioned him to Louisville, and brought Bobby in since we needed a long man out of the pen when Kyle Lohse sucks it up again today.

Friday's starter is still TBA

yeah
C.Trent wrote "Saarloos DFA'd". Confused me. I think its a good move. Let's see what Livingston can do. Good job, Sweaterpants.
Get, that, dirt off your shoulder.

Sounsd like Saarlos is pissed
But what are the Reds supposed to do?  The guy sucked so bad yesterday, that he wore the whole pen out.  They had to have someone that could go a few innings today, especially as bad as Lohse has been.

He should be pissed
He pulled a Paul Willson on us, and i really thought in spring training he would be a good 5 starter cause he is a ground ball pitcher in GABP...but turns out he is just a BP arm...

Yeah both Fay and C Trent
Say this move is only for a long reliever the next day or two as Santos is probably unavailable.  They will bring up someone else to start Friday.  Unless Milton is ready to come back, my money is on Dumatrait, but I depending on what happens between now and then, I guess Santos could go as well.

Right now...
The only way to move the fan base is to call up Homer.

Not saying he's ready, but that's about the only move that could sway the fan base.

That, or firing Jerry Narron.

Both please, Wayne
Farewell coach Narron and Bucky too!

Which would you guys rather have happen?
Narron getting canned or Bailey being brought up?

Okay, I'll qualify that slightly:
Narron canned for someone better.  In some way, any way.

Who else would manage this club thats decent?

What's scary is that Sweaterpants job...

fire krivsky...
have someone else pick the new manager...

sweaterpants is the brilliant mind who signed Narron to an extension.

Suggested this in another thread.. Buck Showalter ?? he's experienced at cleaning up Narrons messes before.

yeah
I disagree though, Texas did not improve THAT much. I would like to see a guy like ozzie guilen that says stupid things to fire people up

DO NOT WANT
a guy like Ozzie Guillen. He is the wonderful amalgam of the "play the game the right way" ("smart ball") knucklehead and self-satisfied iconoclast.

You think that Freel gets out thrown out often now? Wait until a manager like Ozzie has him as a toy.

If you want to know why the White Sox won the World Series be sure to ask anyone other than Ozzie. They won with freakishly good pitching out of both starters and pen and they won with power hitting. Ozzie thinks just the opposite.

That said, I would like a manager with a little more personality. Of course, a shitty manager with lots of personality is just infuriating. I'm agnostic on Buck.

Now why's e'erbody so mad at the South for?

by Man Mountain on May 28, 2007 1:17 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

well
I never said I liked his "theroy' on baseball. I was just trying to use an example of a manager with some passion other than Lou. I suppose I didn't use the best example haha

I feel you
Ozzie amuses me from afar kind of, but I don't want him managing my favorite team. As I said, I do sort of like blustery managers. Bobby Cox being the best example of a composed manager who can turn on the jets when needed.
Thank you, Donny.

I am not sure if firing Krivsky is the answer
You gotta give him more time.  It is futile to not even allow a GM three years.  If they fire Krivsky his predoscesor will be the Reds 4.5 gm since 2003.  That means that no plan will ever happen and the team will keep spinning it's wheels.

louisville staff?
Promote the manager from AAA, call up some guys from the minors, and say that the 2008 season starts now?  If it doesn't work out, you can always send the AAA manager back down next year.

Or, add the Iraqi Information Minister to the front office.

by nulspace on May 28, 2007 2:26 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah i know
I would do the same in a heart beat! He really isn't different at all from Bob Boone. How many different line ups have we had this year? Do you see the Mets, Red Sox, or Indians shuffle hitters around as much as the reds do. It effects teh hitters as well. One night Phillips could be hitting 2nd the next clean up. Make up your mind!

According to Baseball Reference...
We have used 40 different batting orders in 51 games.

by bigjas on May 28, 2007 12:57 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Now that's Keeping it simple!
Remember when Jerry Narron said that when the reds finished strong in 05...thanks for that stat man

I agree 100% ...
about the lineups.  I think Castellini should bring in someone to manage who used to play on the Reds (besides Ray Knight).  How about Bench, Perez, Griffey Sr., Concepcion or Oester? I mean, any of those guys could do a better job filling out a lineup card and it would bring a little bit of nostalgia to the remainder of the season and maybe fill a few more seats.

by jambolyajones on May 28, 2007 1:03 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

That sounds good
I was really impressed with Bench when he filled in for a Joe Nuxy  a couple years back, he knows the game so well and he gets on guys when they are slacking! I'm sure he rather golf everyday then manage

Tony Perez didn't do well with Flordia a few years ago...

Some one said Dibble a couple weeks ago...he is a fiery guy

dibble would not be good
Pitchers usually aren't good managers.  Plus I have heard him on XM he doesn't know that much.

by justin0070000 on May 28, 2007 9:36 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Personally,
If I was managing this club right now...I would come into the clubhouse drunk off my rocker and just hand the players the lineup card and tell them to fill the damn thing out.

by bigjas on May 28, 2007 1:19 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Then..
I'd go to my office and pass out so I wouldn't have to watch this crap that we call Reds baseball.

by bigjas on May 28, 2007 1:20 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I suggested Dibbloe as a candidate
but only for his zany side...like throwing baseballs 350 ft. into the stands and managing to hit someone. But Dibble would be a step in the right direction that's undeniable.
Farewell coach Narron and Bucky too!

are you serious?
Step back me thinks. How about a Big Red Machiner?

by Caleb on May 28, 2007 4:25 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I have been beating this drum for sometime...
Ron Oester is the exactly the kind of no-apologies, take-no-shit ass-hole I want to see manage this team.
GO REDS!

They had that chance
And they blew it.

Oh, and here's what Oester is up to, presumably.

by jch24 on May 29, 2007 11:20 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Wow - Cool
Did anybody else know about this league?

I'd say that makes Oester "available"

My vote is for "The Captain" Barry Larkin. What could he hurt for half a season.
