The Next Generation

Ok, folks.

Part of our duties as fans involves raising future generations of Reds fans.

Use this diary as a forum to show off your offspring. Include any humorous parent-related stories, hopes and dreams for future fandom, transcendental baseball moments y'all have had together, you name it.

I get real sappy when I think about sharing baseball with my 12 month old son in the future.

Dunn is fun, but Griffey's spiffy.

ok this is weird
for some reason I can't see my pic or yours

oh well, it was a good idea in theory

by bobestes on May 22, 2007 6:19 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

blogger pictures are sporadic
sometimes they show, sometimes they don't.

Man Mountain, your image URL is bad.  It doesn't have a file name and you need to use http:\ before the www.

My kid just pooped and missed the diaper, somehow.  The more things change, the more they stay the same.

joke
my image was a joke based on bobestes' bad image.

I have no children (or pets).

Don't have kids
But my best friend does.  He's a complete sports nut.  He has a son, named Derek.  (He says it's not after Jeter, but I wonder.)  He signed up for Jets season tickets when the kid was born, dreaming of taking his son to the games.  He had plans for Little League, Pop Warner football, high school sports, etc.

Of course you know what happened.  The kid hates sports.  All kinds of sports.  Won't even watch sports, let alone play them or go to games.

My friend is okay with it, though.  Derek is not the son he always imagined having, but he wouldn't trade him for anything.  He gave up his Jets season tickets, and they do other things together.

Put down Mason..
i am going to have put mason down to post pictures and stuff.. one handed typing even..

i've got double duty tonight - the wife is at a moms get together. atleast i can watch the game. :)

by snohio on May 22, 2007 7:36 PM EDT   0 recs

I'll get some other pics...
..and comments up here later tonight.

(I'll apologize in advance for my contribution to the Red Reporter family photo album/slide show that this diary may be about to become.  I realize that some of you are about as interested in my children as I am in interested in American Idol)

But for now, snohio, how old is your Mason? (I think you said in the other diary that our boys might be roughly the same age.)  Preston (from the pictures) is nearly 2.5 (he's a little guy-spry even) and his fat little brother Tommy (see my BlogLog avatar) is eight months old.

Anyone else?

Picture Time.

Here, let me break out my wallet and show my you my boys..

Sorry if they aren't formatted the best and hopefully Shutterfly won't hunt me down for direct links, but my web server is down right now due to moving my computers around at home....

Trey (MJB3) just turned 2-1/2 on May 3rd. Mason Lee (MLB or Brick as I like to call him) turns 2 months on Memorial Day.

While we are on the subject, I mentioned it in a game thread, but I think it would be fun - how many of you would be interested in a family picnic / wiffleball game sometime in the coming month(s). I think a family get together would be fun. I really enjoy the aspect of RR that we get to chat about the family. RR is really a very nice online community. I also want to get my wife to believe that we are not all a bunch of compete dorks. :) I'll start a diary if we have enough interest..

by snohio on May 23, 2007 11:31 AM EDT   0 recs

You want your wife to believe that we're not dorks
and you thinking her meeting us will help that effort?

Good looking kids, but Trey better get down from that table before he gets hurt!

Yeah.. Thanks to his Grandma..
His "Dede" (grandma) has the same table and she lets him climb on it. The kid is 35lbs. He's no lightweight. He's going to go through the thing one of these days.

by snohio on May 23, 2007 12:03 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Hmm...
So far I know...

Slyde (Dork)
Me (dork)
OBC (Dork)
Sukr (Big Dork)
Snohio (dork i think, but I was a little drunk when I met him)
Red Menace (Dork)
Ash (Cooler than the rest of us/borderline dork)

So yeah, I'm in on a whiffle ball/picnic outing.  Sounds like a lot of fun!

My opinion isn't very popular...

by chandrathan on May 23, 2007 11:49 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Yes but...
I had a certain impression before my first meeting of everyone and I definitely came away with a totally different one. Again - maybe it was the alcohol there too.

Maybe dorks and not geeks? Hell, I think I'm one of the few "IT" guys around here.

I guess I expected a bunch of stats geeks and it wasn't like that at all. Maybe I just want her to stop calling me a dork. :)

by snohio on May 23, 2007 12:01 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Chandra knows I'm a dork...
She knew it when we were in high school....It stayed true when we were in college, and unfortunately it's true now.

Also, I met JCH24 and he's a dork too.  His wife was cool...He's an IT guy.

I went to school and got a computer science degree, but I don't use it.

My opinion isn't very popular...

I'm a sys/net admin. Oh, and I did meet chandrathan on dirty shirt night, but apparently I don't rate. :)

Ok..
So I should have stated "of the people I have personally met...."

But glad to know I'm not the only one around here than can fire up the old server..

Hey, think you could stop by my house and get my f'ing new DSL router and my wireless router to play nice. I fried the Westell DSL power adapter in the move and got whole new router that now wants to be the center of my universe and I want it to just be a router damn it.. I have to reconfigure my whole network now..

JK.. Ok.. I guess I'll count you..

Going to Miami, we had two IS degrees. SAN (systems analysis) and MIS (management of Info Systems) or better known as SAN-Light. Application guys were in SAN-Light. :)

Actually I didn't make much more than 2 years in.

That's okay
my degree is in Philosophy, so I'm probably too spacey to be a hardware guy.

Oy
Been there.....that's the only reason I'm still running the old Cisco DSL router at my house. Well, that, and I'm lazy. :)

My biggest problem now is that I somehow lost the ability to dial into my home computer from work. Puts a crimp in my "oh crap, I forgot to email that file, better dial in and grab it" plans.

Odd Thing
For some reason the Cisco routers don't work in all locations (mine being one.) It's Westell or bust.. I've got two old Cisco routers floating around the house collecting dust.

Wow, we kinda got off track and seemed to have high-jacked Bob's diary..

by snohio on May 23, 2007 12:36 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

since we're here
I have a networking question.  I've got a linsys wireless-g router that I've upgraded with DD-WRT software.  The wireless connection is quick on it, but I have two desktops that are wired to it and they are stinkin' slow (websites constantly fail to load).  I just assumed that it was the PCs because they are both old, but today I connected one of them directly to the cable modem and the connection flew.  I know you're not a helpdesk, but any guesses on why or what I can do to figure out why the wired connections suck through the router?

by Slyde on May 23, 2007 5:17 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

You might check
Silly suggestion, but make sure there's no duplex mismatch between the router and machine.

Here's the best thread I saw after googling. Not sure if it'll help or not.

by jch24 on May 24, 2007 9:35 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Good call.
Yeah a duplex mismatch would definitely turn out those kind of results.

You could hard-set the network adapter to 100/full and do the same on the switch/router assuming it will let you. (or 10/full if the computers are THAT old.)

by snohio on May 24, 2007 9:55 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Thanks guys!
I switched the PC from Full duplex to half and it seems to be working now.  That explains why I had good speed before I switched to the wireless router, but not so much lately.  You just made my PC usable again.  Thanks jch! (and snohio for agreeing with him :).

Of course, I'm only getting 10 Mbps, but that's because yes, the PC is that old.  This is the fourth place I've lived in since I bought it (back in 2000 or 2001, I believe).

Thanks again!

..I'm guessing you had a lot of fun with the "height," "weight" and "head circumference" percentile charts and graphs.

You got a good one there.

I wasn't commenting...
...on any specific baby's specific head size. I just thought that (assuming your pediatrician showed you growth rate charts similar to what my pediatrician showed me) you must have never have been so proud to see some numbers crunched and graphed.

I guess I'm disqualified from the aformentioned 'geek' category.  Being in accounting, however, may place me squarely in the 'dork' category.

brief instructions
  1. upload the pictures to somewhere on the web (http://imageshack.us is a good, free place to try).
  2. Get the URL of the image from where you uploaded it.
  3. post the image in a comment using the img tag.  Check the main page of the wiki for instructions as I can't put a clear example without the site thinking it's actually an image.
  4. Rinse, repeat.

Preston & Pops @ GAB in '05 and again in '06.
Points if you can name the HOF pitcher/HOF batter matchup behind us in both pictures.  (Yes, it looks like a lefty on the mound in '06 but I promise you it's the same HOF right-handed virtuoso that's pitching in the '05 picture. I think he was checking a runner at first or something.)

Anyway, I've got one more pic and then I'll stop.  ('Til ya holla for mo.)

We'll work on his open stance and of course whenever I ask him to switch the position of his hands he just gives me that look that says, "Uh Dad, ever heard of a guy named Hank Aaron?" Either that or his look says, "I just filled my pants with this morning's waffles."
