Biggest road trip of the year!!!
...well not really, but the Dodgers, Padres and Indians are all good teams and the Reds didn't play well at all vs any 3 of those teams last year.
Here is a few thoughts i have that i'm confused on...
-How long can Harrang {5-1 but with a 5+ ERA now!} give up 5 runs every outing and win games for us?
-Most of us thought that Lohse and Matt B were the keys to the reds Sucsess this year both are 4-5, which is not too great but have a 3.65 ERA Combined. In the NL when your 3 or 4 are putting up solid numbers like that you shouldn't be 15-20
...if you guys have any inside info that would make light of what already looks like it is going to be a LONG season please post it!
Reasons after 35 games to be discouraged if your a reds fan...
-If the Reds win their next 5 games in a row they are 20-20, wohoo!
-Don't look now but the Cubs are playing decent baseball and Ted Lilly and Jason Marquis are studs in the NL...though Marquis sucked bad last year
-David Weathers is the Reds Best Reliever

Harang just knows how to win
Lohse and Belisle don't know how to win. Plain and simple.

It's sorry how poor this team's record is.
Their starting middle infielders are combining for around an .850 OPS and very good defense.
They have starters with ERAs of 2.85, 3.21, and 3.45, and another with an ERA of 5.04 but with a 5-1 record.
All of that is beyond good. That's top-of-the-line production at most of the key spots on the team, but they can't produce at two of the three biggest offensive positions (1B and 3B) or get an out from the bullpen. I think where the problems are at kinda sheds light on how incompetent the management of this team is.

winning pitchers
There was all kinds of fannish speculation on why it was that way. Maybe the hitters, confident in RJ's reputation, were just more relaxed. Or maybe, knowing how inconsistent he was, they knew they had to score early and often.
I think it was just a fluke. Poor Moose just had terrible luck. On offense and defense. A-Rod had a really bad stretch at 3B for awhile, and it seems like Mussina was the victim, more often than not.

I think...
Giambi wasn't nearly as screwed up in 2004, and they asked him to go to Columbus. He refused, as was his right as a veteran, but they did ask.

Found it
It was actually Michael Kay. And it wasn't even WHIP or anything. This caller Chris made Michael Kay look foolish using ERA.

Unfortunately...
Probably his most infamous moment: last season, when he compared people who think talking about a no-hitter can jinx it with Nazis. His rant is amazing to hear.
Still, when I have to watch ESPN or Fox, I really, really miss Michael Kay.
My favorite YES announcer is Al Leiter. He's still new enough that he doesn't filter what he says. Which makes him refreshingly honest. Like, he'll say certain umpires are vengeful and petty...and name names.
I love listening to him talk about pitching strategy, and also about how pitchers feel about hitters and position players. (Apparently, nothing plecks off a pitcher more than an outfielder who doesn't at least give a homerun a courtesy chase. Even if it's obviously gone, 600 ft., they want the OFers to at least pretend to chase it. Similarly, a pitcher who has two brain cells to rub together will never, ever criticize his fielders, no matter how many stupid errors they make.)
Leiter also has that rarest of qualities: when he has nothing to say, he shuts up. Sometimes you think he's left, because he's so quiet. He'll be silent for half an hour sometimes. But no, he's there. Just doesn't talk if he doesn't have anything to say.
