The Yankee Turd Express

Is anyone else not surprised about the Yankees being such a crappy, last place team this year?

Right now, they are 8-12 and in last place in the AL East.

Feel free to use this thread to share your feelings about the Mighty Yankees stinking up the joint, and to pile on the gloating where necessary.

It's early
But yes, they are Turd Burglers.

Sure it's early
But they look terrible. They play like a beer league softball team; no pitching and a ton of swing for the fences hitters.

As sure as the sun rises in the east, ARod is having his monster year in lieu of his team playing like total crap, it's like he's playing for the Texas Rangers again.

Wake me when he plays well in a meaningful game.

I thought
A-Rod was good the first half of last year too? Still a Turd Enormitod, yes.

A-Rod over the last three years
1st half: 64HR, 195RBI, .290/.389/.532
2nd half: 55HR, 162RBI, .311/.405/.570

Month by month, his numbers are fairly consistent, but May has been his best month recently (24,72,.337/.451/.640).

Heh
I don't like to let facts get in the way of my baseless accusations!

by bobestes on Apr 27, 2007 3:59 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Regardless
the math is the same.

Yankees over the last three years:
1st half: 50% Turd
2nd half: 50% Turd

As you can see, they always become 100% Turd by the end of the year...

question
Would you rather have the Yankees be a .500 team and miss the playoffs, or make the playoffs so you have someone to hate?

I'm a Yankee hater who hopes they make the playoffs. Makes the postseason even better.

by greg456 on Apr 27, 2007 12:59 PM EDT   0 recs

Interesting
In my perfect world, however, the Yankees and Red Sox miss the playoffs. Why? Because f*ck them, that's why.

by bobestes on Apr 27, 2007 1:07 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I want them
to miss the playoffs by one game

Because Clemens...
Forgets to shoot up and loses the season finale, knocking them from the playoffs. That's my dream scenario.

I want them to miss the playoffs by 20 games
This is the part I hate about the Yankees (and their fans).  They are in contention every year.  They make the playoffs every year.  While it is painful to lose in the post-season for sure, their fans get the thrill of the chase.  They don't know what's it like for your season to be over in May.  They don't know what its like to play meaningless games for 2/3rds of the season that take a lot of the joy out of baseball.  Already, I'm starting to lose some of the joy of this season and we're still in April.  Why?  Because I just don't see any signs that we will have a pennant race in Cincinnati.  I think we will probably remain below .500 from here on out.

Yankee fans know they won't remain below .500 and they will probably be back in the playoffs.  Again.

Amen again!
They don't know what its like to play meaningless games for 2/3rds of the season that take a lot of the joy out of baseball.

That, more than anything, is why I hate that team.

1980's
And when they play meaningless baseball, they don't show up. See the 1980's.

I think...
...that applies only to new or young Yankees fans. The Yankees have had many years when they were truly awful, despite their big bucks.

New or young Yankees fans
so roughly 99% of their fanbase. Though I did catch some BET the other day and noticed a decided shift towards Red Sox gear.

Beware Yankees. Once you lose the mercurial rappers, you lose the lifeblood of your following.

you'll get no sympathies here!
26 WS championships applies to all yankees fans.  forever.

and ever.

even if they never win another series again.

forever.

and ever.

I want to live in a world...
Where everything doesn't go back to the Damn Yankees.  If they win that's all you here about, and if they lose that's all you here about.  It seems there's as much Yankees stuff on this site now as there is Reds.  How bout we treat them like other last place teams, and not mention them...

And no I don't hope they make the playoffs, I hope the Yankees never win another game!

I agree with Boobs.

Yankees
The Yankees are antagonists to the rest of the league. They're perfect for it. Storied history of winning, asshole owner, arrogant fans, you name it.

Without the Yankees as antagonists (evil empire), baseball would be more boring.

The Red Sox are making a run for antagonist status, by sheer appearances on natl TV.

by bobestes on Apr 27, 2007 4:03 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

it's a little unfair
cuz the red sox didn't rob the rest of the league of star players throughout the course of baseball history.  and they lost sooooo much.

i look at the sox as the anti-yankees, but i don't even watch those games between the teams anymore.  it used to be an awesome rivalry.  now it's just overkill.  i mean, FOK$ had them on two weeks in a row.  meanwhile, there are some teams who don't even get on FOK$ Saturday Monopoly.

Let's see
Without the Yankees as antagonists (evil empire), baseball would be more boring.

I love Alex Rodriguez
I want him to succeed. I want him to oblitrate the home run record. I could give fuckall about his personality. He's an awesome, awesome baseball player.

It's nice to see Yankee's fans--"the most savvy, educated baseball fans on the planet" (tm)--blaming their woes on their best player. There's a little Cincy in all of us.

The Yankees farm system
BP has some free content today, rating prospects are farm systems.

Lies, Damned Likes, and PECOTA

According to their calculations, the Yankees have the second best farm system, but are way behind the Rays.

Two things jump out as being absolutely frightening--how far the Devil Rays are ahead of the curve and how much the Yankee system has progressed.

Heh.  The Yankees under Cashman are all about nurturing the farm system.

PECOTA hates Homer Bailey, BTW.

The pitchers in the Homer Bailey (or Matt Cain) class clearly seem to be underrated by a system that can't account directly for velocity. Still, PECOTA is looking smart so far, as Bailey's 13/9 strikeout ratio in his first 21.1 innings at Louisville are pretty discouraging.

Yankees
I want to see them and the Reds in the W.S. again. With the same results as 1976
