Hamilton on Rome

I know the Hamilton posts are like a broken record, but it is a pretty good broken record!  Hamilon was on the Jim Rome show Monday.  I caught the last part of the interview.  When I started listening, Rome was asking the usual questions about Hamilton's past, and as usual, Hamilton was very open with his answers.  Rome was impressed.

My favorite part of the interview was Hamilton putting a bad day at the park into perspective.  He mentioned losing one in the sun in Wrigley and going 0-4.  He talked about how, on the way home, his wife was on the phone with one of her friends saying how it was a bad day for Hamilton, and he corrected her saying how great of a day it was.  He mentioned the bleacher creatures riding him the whole game.  They would follow his every footstep, "Left... Right... Left" so he would jump occasionally to throw them off.  I bet they loved that!

If there happens to be a link or recording of the interview, would someone post it?  It really was great.

I'll post this here
In Bill Simmons' (The Sports Guy) chat on espn.com, he was asked about Hamilton and had this to say:

Jack (Cincinnati): Ive ready so many puff pieces on Josh Hamilton that my head is about to explode, but I am now truly excited about the Great Hambino era. Your thoughts?

Bill Simmons: (1:35 PM ET ) I don't see that one ending well. Let's just say Chris Connelly will end up being involved at some point.

*

A couple points.

  1. Simmons hates Hamilton, and is thus a wretched human being!
  2. Ok, maybe he just hasn't sipped the Kool-Aid, and might (might) have a legitimate point about Hamilton being a work in progress and still needing to say on the wagon.
  3. "Hobbs" is a much better nickname than "The Great Hambino."
  4. I hate Chris Connelly.  Just hate him.  He's all that's bad about sports reporting and entertainment reporting, wrapped up in all that's bad with "Dateline" reporting.
  5. Josh Hamilton is awesome, and anyone that says negative things about him would likely be singing a different tune if he happened to play for their team.

Not everyone at espn.com hates Hamilton
Jeff Pearlman had a decent write-up on "Hamilton as touching recovery story."  Check it out here:

Yeah
I'm trying to ask around about how the rest of the world feels about Hamilton.  It seems that a lot of people seem him as the Darryl Strawberry of today . . . which is more of a tragic portrait of those people than anything.
