.800, .846, .839 OPS in AAA the past three years and he was 23, 24, and 25 for those seasons. That's not even remotely impressive.

"Pitchers did me a favor when they knocked me down. It made me more determined." -Frank Robinson

by Caleb on Apr 12, 2007 12:25 AM EDT up reply actions

His point was...
It wasn't a terrible thing if Weathers walked the guy because the hitter behind him was not as good. He wasn't saying that Weathers should walk him intentionally or anything.

by bigjas on Apr 12, 2007 12:29 AM EDT up reply actions

He said that if he was Weathers
he wouldn't throw the next pitch anywhere near the strike zone. I'd say that qualifies.

by Ash on Apr 12, 2007 12:31 AM EDT up reply actions

It's called...
Throwing a pitcher's pitch. Would you have rather Weathers grooved one right down the middle?

by bigjas on Apr 12, 2007 12:52 AM EDT up reply actions

You mean like in yesterday's game?
Of course not. The way I see it, Thom was not talking about a pitcher's pitch, he was talking about throwing the ball nowhere near the plate. (i.e. Not even a chance of a swing) Chris was the one who countered with pitcher's pitch.

I don't agree with just putting the winning run on first in the bottom of the 9th. Make a pitch, but stay out of the batter's wheelhouse and surrounding zones. That's all I'm sayin'.

Narron Removing Edwin Encarnacion
Bobby Cox did the same thing when Andrew Jones did not hustle, he pulled him mid-inning.  Andrew Jones never did that again.  I think this does send a message, I am all in favor of it.  It does show that Narron is the boss, which is somthing that Cincinnati has lacked since Jack McKeon.  Nobody took Boone or Miley seriously.  Say what you will about his ingame stradegy, but moves like this are just as important.  Maybe it would have cost the team a game.  But Bobby Huggins was never afraid to proove his point, he would have benched Danny Fortson or Kenyon Martin if he felt they did not hustle.  People say Griffey doesn't always hustle.  Somtimes he watches balls hit the wall, but one of the reasons he is frequantly injured is from husteling.  He dislocated his shoulder making a catch, he dislocated his knee slding into home plate, his dislocated his toe trying to climb the wall.  He has proven that he plays hard, you don't acheive everythign he has by not playing hard.

RE: Edwin's benching
I kinda like it.  Just curious though....anyone else agree that Jr was even more deserving for failing to reach second base a couple games ago??  Remember when he started his annoying home run trot on a long fly ball that stayed in the park....then, the throw missed the cutoff man...then I think they threw home...all told, he could have jogged to second base.  In doing so he needlessly failed to reach scoring position, and left the double play in order (was only one out).  Muchly tired of his kit glove treatment, I am.

no
i have no problem treating jr. with kid gloves. the fact is he is different. if we dont let him take it easy on occasion, he'll break. plus, for me at least, he makes up for it on occasion, like the other day when he barrelled into home to score.
And in the end the love you take is equal to the love you make.

not really
Griffey is a hall of famer, you don't get that from loafing, he has earned his stripes.  He choses his spots.  He has been injured climbing walls, diving for pitches, running from first to third, and sliding into home.  Most of his cincinnati injuries have been from playing hard.
