I hear all this stuff about keeping Chad Moeller b/c Valetin is allegedly such a great pinch hitter. This doesn't make sense to me for a couple of reasons.
- Moeller sucks, there have to be at least 100 guys as good or better than him and w/ a team already lacking in offense keeping a .220 hitter around is ridiculous.
- Building off the first point, Narron is the manager so clearly Moeller will see some serious playing time at all spots in the order, this in itself is scary.
- My main point: Valetin isn't that great of a pinch hitter. I know he gets the occasional PH homer, but I don't know if that makes him that good, esp. playing at GABP. I can't find this pinch hitting BA (perhaps Slyde has this). But everytime I see the enquirer talk about him they say "Valentin led the team in PHs." What does that mean? I'm sure he had the most chances. These are the stats I could find about Javy and they don't look too good.
Late and close he hit .264 (that sounds pretty decent, but I don't have the avgs of this around the league).
Game w/in 1 run he hit .250.
W/in 2 runs he hit .242.
Up by more than 4 he hit .340.
So, does Javy really qualify as being so good at pinch hitting that we must use him in that role almost exclusively and get stuck w/ Moeller?
