Hamilton news for the day -
3 for 4, two doubles, a walk. He's now 6 for 12 in the first three games, and he managed an infield single with his blazing speed yesterday, which probably wasn't lost on the old school guys. This means a lot closer to nothing than it does something really significant, except from the standpoint that narron surely was hoping for exactly this kind of start to the spring.
From C. Trent
hamilton makes the squad. too much talent not to keep him around (one of the pitchers today said to me, 'he's got to make the team. he's just too good')
From the Fay
Hamilton just roped another double this one to right-center. He's on the club.
Josh Hamilton train rolls on -- 3-for-4 with a walk. "He's fun to watch," Reds manager Jerry Narron said. "I like the ball he hit to left. That's what we're looking for. He can run. He plays a good outfield, too."
Don't see how he doesn't make it. But April 2 is long way off.
I think the bloggers are getting caught up a little bit... still nearly a month before opening day. but to be fair, i bet jerry is getting caught up a little bit too.
Also, Livingston apparently was very impressive. 2 IP, 1 hit, 2 K. From C Trent: Livingston looked awesome. 3 up, 3 down. First guy, Tyner, grounded out to first. Then Kubel and LeCroy struck out looking.
From the Fay:
Bobby Livingston impressed Narron with two perfect innings.
Update [2007-3-3 16:17:2 by boobs]: It's a final: 14-1 Reds, 25 hits, most hits in a spring training game since 3/7/6. Not a bad day. Hatteberg and Phillips homered, Keppinger and Janisch were both 3 for 3. Harang credited with a win, but Livingston, Santos, Ligtenberg and Love Shack go 7 innings, 2 hits, no runs. I hope April starts this well.
Second Update [2007-3-3 17:45:2 by boobs]: From the Fay:
In the other news of the day: Gary Majewski is still a week to 10 days from throwing off the mound. Majewski is accepting the fact that he may start in the year in Triple-A. "If I need to go there to rehab, so be it," he said.
Looks like this could probably add another slot for a pitcher. Maybe Livingston has a real shot to make this team, as do Hermanson and Ligtenberg. (Not all of them, but maybe 2).
