Around SBN: Kobe Bryant Isn't Up To Speed On Jeremy Lin, 'Linning'

Paul Wilson?

From Mark Sheldon on Reds.com:

"It's early, but right now, Wilson's looking pretty darn good. We were remiss to not include his name on last week's poll about fifth starter candidates. He definitely has a shot. Shoulder and elbow surgeries over the years, including the major shoulder operation in June 2005 that he's trying make a comeback from, robbed Wilson off his above-90 mph velocity. But observers this spring have been impressed with his ability to locate and the quality of his sinker pitch.

Wilson has a tremendous work ethic and is a favorite of many in the clubhouse. If he's healthy and has a good run during the exhibition games, in my mind he's got to be a favorite for the fifth spot. If not, a role in the bullpen is always an option.

---

I was surprised to read this. He seems to really thinks Wilson could be in the mix for a starter spot. I thought Wilson was pretty much done. It would be really nice just to have him in the bullpen. It would be a helluva comeback, but I wonder how optimistic this is?

Start in the Louisville
Unless he goes 5-0 with a 1.0 era this spring, I would expect him to start in Louisville and continue rehab. He has a minor league deal so I am sure they will use it..

That said, if he shows well in Louisville, I would expect his name would be first on the list to replace anyone not performing (starters or long relief.)

Under no circumstances...
Should Paul Wilson be on the Major League Roster, and Homer Bailey wind up in Louisville.
Oh, well you know what, I found the card, actually, they're from your mom, so tell your gay mom I said thanks!

why all the wilson hate?
he won 11 games for a really shitty team in 04.  he'd make a great number 5.

bailey should be taking milton's place, not be a 4 or 5 starter.

Still haven't found what I'm looking for.

Ditto This....
Although Wilson had all but his best year in '04, he apparently is really working hard to get back into the rotation.  I appreciate that.  If he can do it, all the better for us.  What the hell has Milton shown us other than he's great at giving up the gopher ball?  If I gave Bailey a shot, it would be in Milton's slot, should another pitcher prove worthy for #5.
Spring, please.

Hopefully
you didn't take my comment at "hate" or even negative. I was the one who said I'd like to see him starting and have 3 first over all #1 picks on the team.

I just really think that the fact he only has a minor league contract with an invite is going to determine where he starts the season. I don't think it is going to be long into the season when either #5 starter, Lohse or Milton is going to need replacing.

I'll accept the hate label
Hate him. Hate everything about him. The worst part is he's interbreeding with our pure non-Paul Wilson bloodlines.

you just hate everything

Hehehe
Get her Menace!

I would love to see Wilson in relief if he doesn't have starter stamina anymore. Could he be any worse than what we've got? Don't answer that.

Still haven't found what I'm looking for.

Slang evol
We had diss and then hatin'.  Maybe it's time for a new street expression.  I nominate some derivation of "loathe."

by ken on Feb 28, 2007 4:13 PM EST up reply actions

great idea!
I nominate "load."  As the "th" sound is often a "d" sound in other languages, it has some linguistic legitimacy, plus it sounds like a load in one's pants, which lends it more meaning, like he's just crap.

I load Eric Milton.  It works!

Still haven't found what I'm looking for.

by Daedalus on Mar 1, 2007 4:27 PM EST up reply actions

Yep
"I load Tony Larussa" - sounds right.  And nice use of "linguistic" and "a load in one's pants" in the same sentence.

by ken on Mar 1, 2007 6:01 PM EST up reply actions

i think
it can best be used as a possessive object.

"David Eckstein is Adam Dunn's load."

And in the end the love you take is equal to the love you make.

This Thread makes my head asplode...
Wilson wasn't that good before his last surgery.  Now he is making yet another comeback...

He is not a major league caliber pitcher at this point in his career.  It is way past the time to stop mentioning the name Paul Wilson in conjunction with our starting rotation!

Oh, well you know what, I found the card, actually, they're from your mom, so tell your gay mom I said thanks!

MLB wants him back
He is on my official 2007 calendar.

oh yeah, i forgot about that
hmm, maybe they had a premonition?  and they put kearns, lopez, and claussen in there for us DC folks...
Still haven't found what I'm looking for.

I'm rooting for him
It would be nice to see him come back and make a couple of starts, if the Reds are out of contention (which they won't be). Coming out of spring training I'd rather see one of the younger guys like Ramirez, Saarlos, or even Bailey get the fifth spot.

by KAredsfan on Feb 28, 2007 4:37 PM EST reply actions

Just go away Paul Wilson!
I was big on the Reds picking him upu the first time.  But his stuff just got worse and worse.  Unless the latest surgery is actually successful AND corrected all the damage that previous surgeries caused, then it's pointless.  Hopefully, this is just another token invite a la Pete Harnisch.
