Around SBN: Kobe Bryant Isn't Up To Speed On Jeremy Lin, 'Linning'

Dunn arrives--focused on defense?

From Trent:

Dunn arrives early in great shape. He's determined to be much better than last year, and he wants to be a "great" LF.

Sounds good to me.

I like what I'm reading
This sounds a lot more like an emphasis on conditioning and fitness for Dunn.  It seems to be coming from him, and from Jacoby as well.  Basically, I'm reading this as they're ramping up his work ethic but not trying to change the type of hitter he is.  And I hope that stays true.

I'm not hypercritical of Dunn.  He's not a great defender, but I do believe he's improved slightly over the years.  A leaner Dunn should help his range in left, his speed on the basepaths, and his durability for the season.

A lot of people have criticized Dunn for not showing an effort to improve in these ways, so this is a very encouraging story.

I agree...
I hate it when people see he doesn't have a good arm. He was a quarterback who was recruited by Texas! He has a great arm... He just has a slow release...

Yeah
I think the quote has been rephrased.  I think he originally said, "Dunn angry!  Dunn no like slump!  Dunn kill ball!  Mwraaaaaa!"
Can I get a hooha?

I'm optimistic
Maybe he's realized he needs to start putting in more of an effort. But I'm still concerned about him getting his strikeout total down.

Dunn
Hopefully this is the start of a breakout year for him.

All that....
and not a word about running out to his position next season.  Clearly, showing up early to camp, using the offseason to lose weight, and focusing on the weak points of your game mean absolutely nothing if you're not willing to run from the dugout to left field.  I'm really questioning Dunn's level of commitment to this team.  I've just about given up on him.

So basically
what he is saying is that he wasn't trying very hard last year and had no desire to get better in left and eat healthier, (and didn't run to his position.)

Ya know some people grow up at 21, some at 26, some never.. I guess 26 is better than never.. My wife would suggest that she is still waiting on me. :)

hope springs eternal
It's kind of a spring training tradition. Players always show up talking about how screwed up they were last year--injured, out of shaped, in the middle of a divorce--but this year will be different. Nobody ever comes and says, "Man, I'm fat this year. I'm gonna suck."

few people "grow up" at 21
they may think they have it all figured out, but those who feel that way often have a pretty difficult time when they realize they don't sometime in their forties when they have their midlife crises.  not sure why people crucify dunn for enjoying life -  more people should try it.  i think baseball fans as a whole enjoy life a bit more than those without the game in their lives.

i think the time i spend on this site during work is indicative of my state of "grownupness."

Still haven't found what I'm looking for.

I told you
my wife is still waiting on me.. And she will be for some time.. To give you an idea, I was out building an igloo for the neighbor kids and they went inside to get warm. I stayed out there until the job was finished. She just didn't understand..
