That was on C.Trent's blog about 5 days ago.. But yeah, Bowden doesn't seem to look to hard to assemble a team. How do they continue to put up with that shit in DC.. Oh - never mind - its DC where we keep electing the same idiots over and over - perfect fit for leather pants..

he isn't as extreme as Bowden

It is to be expected that he any GM will pick up players from his former organization, he is more familiar with them.

was so much fun

at one nats game last year with a reds fan i met. we kept screaming "go reds!" the whole game. yeah, we were kind of annoying, but it was kearns, pena, lopez, and young. i think jimenez got into that game as well. now it's just overkill.

but you must admit - bowden did put together the 94, 95, and 99 teams, so he must have sort of known what he was doing. but now, those guys are ancient.

Lacks Good Management Skills (but that is probably true of over 75% of people in "management" today, regardless of where you look); another phrase for 'treating people like dirt' when you can get away with it.

And he never had enough money to spend. Oh yeah, and couldn't scout or draft pitching worth a damn.

Compared to Bob Howsam, who came out of the Cardinals system, and picked Bobby Tolan out of their 'talent pool'. Bob, at times, could draft good pitching. Wayne Simpson, Don Gullet,Ross Grimsley, Rawly Eastwick, Pat Zachary, Paul Moskau, Joaquin Andujar, etc.

i don't think Bowden is an awful GM

I think he is an awful person. I think he is more suited for a "large market". If he could find starting pitchers like he could find outfielders he would be a top GM. But when a starting pitching staff is put togeather with retreds, a team will find one Pete Shoureck or Pete Harnish, for every 10 Jimmy Anderson's.
