Around SBN: Kobe Bryant Isn't Up To Speed On Jeremy Lin, 'Linning'

toothache now a Nat

C. Moeller, WAS, C Signed to a minor league contract

Bowden continues his love affair with former Reds players. We'll have to wait and see if he is as dumb as sweaterpants and actually puts him on the major league roster.
Who's the next ex-red Jimbo will sign ?

Why are they reporting on Dunn on MLBtraderumors..
I thought he had the no trade clause till June... It seems like no one outside of Cinci knows about this, or could something be worked out if Dunn agrees?

It wouldn't take much to convince him to go to...
...Texas. If we want to move Dunn, I think we can move him pretty easily by paying him a mil or so to leave. Going after Salty would be interesting, and even if the Reds couldn't get him, Taylor Teagarden's a very good catcher prospect who's close to the majors. The Rangers have some interesting arms, too.

I understand the reasons why they would at least
be talking, but is it possible that he could be moved before the season? Anyone know how contracts like that work? I was under the impression that MLB didn't let you sign someone and then turn rigt around and trade them. Of course im probably wrong.

I think you're wrong.
But I'm probably uncertain.

Gary Sheffield
Last year, the Yankees picked up his option, and almost immediately traded him to Detroit.

Sheff raised a big stink, saying he didn't think it was right for the Yanks to pick up his option just to trade him.  But the point of the complaints was just to get a longer contract out of the Tiggers.  He got what he wanted, and happily went to Detroit.

Well, as happy as Sheff ever gets, anyway...

Depends - FA or Option
A team can pick up an option and flip the player immediately (Sheffield) unless there's a no-trade provision (Dunn).  FAs are different - you can't trade a FA until 6/15 of the following year.  This came up in a BPro article this week.

since Arroyo recieved an extension
and never filed for free agency, is that why he was able to be traded?

B/c he's in the middle of his original deal
The extension doesn't affect the Reds' ability to trade him.  I think you're right that you can trade arb guys right away.  But if you need a homework assignment articles VI and XX of the CBA should have your answer.

I think he was talking about from the Red Sox
And I think that deal he signed bought out his last year of arbitration, so that's why he was able to be dealt prior to the start of the 2006 season.
I'm not superstitious...but I am a little stitious.

Oh
There goes my reading comprehension gold star.  And yes, he was tradable because he signed his Sox deal as an arb player, not as a FA (although I think his deal bought out all of his arb years).

So when Jr. is hurt again,
and Hobbs is hobbled, Votto is in a freshman slump where are the runs going to come from? The Reds done picked up Dunn's option and that's the name of that tune.
