Happy Thanksgiving!
We had roast turkey with clam stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, corn pudding, stuffed mushrooms, rice, fresh cranberry sauce, roasted brussel sprouts, broccoli with water chestnuts, and pumpkin cheesecake for dessert.

And it all tastes better when Cowboys win.  ;-)

Happy Thanksgiving from Capital City.
It's all pretty good here.

Lots of good food (although I must confess that we outsourced the ham and turkey to City Barbecue and The Honeybaked Ham Company), family came and visited and didn't stay too long, everybody is happy and healthy, my wife is pregnant (the newest little pair of Redlegs is due right about the time Dusty's crew rolls into the Bronx) and now that he kids are in bed, I'm going out to give thanks for the Coen brothers.

One. Just one.
(At least that's all that doc has told us thus far.)

By "pair of Redlegs" I meant that I was assuming that we'd have a healthy relatively normal bi-pedal little rugrat.

(No word on the whole "boy or girl" thing yet.)

Anyway, we'll have three under the age of four so things'll be nutty like a PayDay for a few years around here.  (And I was doing some math-from-the-future and I realized that all three will be in college simultaneously so there goes my faint aspirations of a partial season ticket package at GAB anytime prior to 2031.)

Ten years?! By then it'll be too late!
Look, just last night the older boy and I were perusing the Milne classic Winnie-the-Pooh and Some Bees.  I stopped him from turning the page just after out protagonist had shown up at Christopher Robin's place asking for a balloon.  I said, "Now we know that Pooh wants the honey in the beehive at the top of the tree and we know that he has already broken branches and fallen from the tree because he was to heavy to be supported by the smaller limbs in the top of the tree.. So what do you think Pooh wants to do with that balloon?.."

[Long pause as a two-year old thiiiiiiinks.....]

"He wants to get the honey!"

Yeah.  Right.  He wants to get the honey.  What about the balloon, Preston?! WHAT ABOUT THE BALLOON?!

My son-- master of the obvious.

Tell me, Andromache.. Do you think Cornell is going to accept that kind of horseshit on their entrance exams? Do you think that this is the kind of incomplete and negligable processing that will ever lead to an understanding of subtext? Will this kid ever have a chance to chuckle at a baseball blogger's MORP jokes?

It's all slipping from my grasp.

Congratulations Alan!
I'm thankful to be back in Reds country for Thanksgiving, and also thankful that the City Barbeque in Centerville has been rebuilt after it burned down.  Tomorrow's meals will be there and Skyline.  I daresay it might be better than Thanksgiving dinner.

I guess I should have read this thread sooner
Congrats FVA!  I have no advice for you except to pick your favorite now and play him/her off the others.  That way you won't have to worry about all of them wanting to stay with you after they graduate.  Also, two of them will hate you so much that you'll probably only have to pay for college for one kid.  That's like free money.

By the way, none of this advice is reliable.  My wife and I haven't even gone on man-to-man defense.  We're still double-teaming and while I haven't checked the score lately, I think we're still losing.

I'm not superstitious...but I am a little stitious.

Back from visisting my soon to be 97
year old Mom who had a fall and cracked her pelvis - a hairline crack but still painful.Old Red's fan are tough! Mrs. Madville and I enjoyed a simple but rewarding luncheon with Mom and listened to her remembrances of things past...especially interesting to hear her talk about when Nuxhall was a player and how my Dad thought Joe was a 'damn hothead'. Then off to Columbus (home of the Buckeyes)to my wife's family where 2 of our kids joined us there while the other other 2 went off to their spouses' families for fun, food and football. My oldest daughter is pregnant w/#2- so life goes on and on.
We will have a Madville family get together on Sunday..then off to the lanes for our annual bowling tournament.

Congrats to Alan and Mrs. Vegas on their upcoming little RR addition.

BTW  Daedalus there's always room at the Madville residence for one more, if you don't mind visiting the ghetto.

My Thanksgiving was too good!
I'm back up to 180 again!!1

btw I called Arkansas over LSU, I have to bring this up cause it is one of the 3 predictions out of 5000 I've got right this year! Sorry MM, I as an SEC fan am disapointed that the best football conference right now will not have a rep for the title but atleast LSU didn't go UK the past month!

But they did to lose to UK
who tanked...so, nothing great about that.

FWIW, I'm not that upset about the loss. Well, it upset me at the time, but I was expecting it this week or next.

This year's LSU team looked significantly worse than last year's; they just had Auburn and Florida at home. This was LSU's best shot at another NCAA title, however--senior-heavy, down years at Auburn/Alabama/Tenn, big football powers dropping unexpected games, getting insane lucky on 4th downs.

That ship won't come around again any time soon.

I hear Michigan is looking for a new Carr with Les Miles.

Wow, what a terrific audience.

Add getting a shot at love with Tila Tequila to the list of things at which I would be horrible.

My thanksgiving dinner was
sweet and sour pork, and cashew chicken, and it was delicious.  Much better then my thanksgiving dinner 2 years ago, which was beef on a Lufthansa flight coming home from Italy.  But nothing beats my thanksgiving dinner last year, which was shortly after i left cuba.
