Don Mattingly
Looks like another Yankee who won't be coming back is Don Mattingly. I think this guy is in line for a manager's chair soon enough, but I doubt it will be this offseason. Is it possible that he'll be the bench coach and "infield guy" Dusty names this week, even if he's only around for a year or two? What's the good word on Mattingly, anyway?

Speier was
Miley and Narron both praised Mark Berry's organizational skills, especially in spring training. Maybe he's a smart guy, just not cut out to make snap decisions at third base.
Mattingly is from Indiana, and it was once discussed trading him to the Reds back in the '80's. The Reds were the only other team besides the Yankees he would have liked to play for, as I remember him telling it.

I remember collecting baseball cards
Speier was a good player. He was drafted in 1970 and started at SS for the Giants' 1971 West Division champions. He once was traded for another former Reds coach -- Tim Foli -- in a deal with the Expos.
Of course, Chris' kid, Justin, is a reliever with the Angels. If my old pal still collects baseball cards, he probably gets Justin Speier in each pack, now.
